Did you know that it's pronounced Awnee DeFrahnko? I didn't.

Delivered a generator, cookstove and batteries to the Western MA inlaws on Sunday. I have never seen anything like the damage they have in West Springfield. Scary what snow can do when there are still leaves on the trees.

Read comments in Springfield Republican articles and you will find that point made over and over with much less subtlety.

Not a single person in the area is complaining about the utility companies, but Scott Brown is outraged. Asshat.

So far, this rocks. I've taken vacation days at work and have enough yard cleanup/tree removal lined up to last me for a week. The house is a bit cold, and I'm currently eating canned soup heated up on the grill, and I'll be in bed in 10 minutes, but I'm making a lot of money this week. The only way I could have made more was if I thought to have a couple of pallets of generators standing by to sell.

2011-11-01 08:11:03 PM
Anyone that lives in rural/suburban Mass should own a generator. Price is no object in this day and age. An excellent 3000W generator costs around $400. My Honeywell runs for 16-18 hours per fill-up and runs my fridge, main TV/XBOX/AV setup, FIOS/router/laptops, heater and lights plus my landlord's TV and router. Easily the best $400 I have ever spent, except for the one time in Montreal.

Never lost the power once here in Worcester! At least in my neighborhood... At least I don't live in Springfield, even if it had power...

Had to drive down to NJ for a work seminar. First time I've ever been happy to head south. Gotta fill up with some of that sweet, cheap NJ gas before I head back up in the AM. Had a biatch of a time filling up to start the trip down. Stopped at Exit 15 Barnes and Noble- looked like a well-wired refugee camp. Anywhere there was a plug- there was someone trying to keep busy on a laptop for an excuse to stay inside and stay warm.

Subaru driver- I guess I'm a lesbian and didn't know it!

2011-11-01 08:30:06 PM
Oh no, we'll be out of power for a few days, wah!

You'll be fine, sincerely, Alabama.

ZAZ: Some of the powerless are Northampton lesbians and UMass professors, but a lot of them are in Springfield gangs.

Not to forget the Mount Holyoke lesbians, the Amherst College professors and a couple of their dorms, and the entire Hampshire campus. It's been a fun weekend up there.

/My sister goes to Amherst College and I'm an alum, so I've been keeping tabs on the situation.

Got electricity back today. But still no internet or water.

An honest question--can someone tell me why power lines aren't buried underground? Much less chance of falling branches making it impossible to flush a toilet for 3 days and counting, the way I see it.

2011-11-01 08:42:59 PM
To the question of power lines - depends on where you are. If the place is already set up for it, such as in a prebuilt development, then it's easy to do. But if you're trying to bury lines in an already established neighborhood you're in trouble because of utilities, crooked roads, what have you. Plus, it's more expensive to rent a backhoe to dig out power lines if mice or whatever chew through it - whereas when a line falls/ pole snaps, it's easier to send a guy up and pound in a new pole into an existing hole.

Having power in Worcester is the exact equivalent to being homeless in Florida.

Based on her entry in wikipedia, she's no lesbian. Identifies as bisexual and been married twice to men.

Same way all the cities in this state got so bad, low wage manufacturing. Been bringing immigrants here forever, just so happens that the current ones give much, much less of a shiat about civic pride, ethnic assimilation, etc., than most of the previous generations. Or at least that's the perception.

I live about 12 miles NW of Boston (Billerica, MA) and we just got power back at about 2PM today. Parts of the town are still without power and may not be back until Thursday.

Where in Easthampton? We're on East Street and still nothing, too. Was fun watching all the Michigan power trucks roll through to somewhere that must have power by now, but not us.

Well, Springfield was because of the fallover from Holyoke. I don't know what started Holyoke though.

Half of my co-workers have been without power since the storm. I live in a condo, so it's not an option for me, but I too cannot understand this. They had all spring & summer to take their pick, now a couple of them have bought overpriced leftover generators that no one else wanted.

OK, Tornados, Hurricane Remnants, and Snowtober knocked out power 3 times this year. It's not coming back until Saturday in Springfield according to WMECO.

This means no natural disasters for 40 years right?
