98% is a bit of a stretch (and then some). You have to factor in that minorities tend to vote Democrat to begin with, first and foremost, and the fact that virtually no Republicans have the interests of anyone but the very rich in mind.

I really don't see any people who did just vote for the President because he's black say "well, this dude is black so now I am deeply conflicted as to what to do." It could maybe be a small factor if Herman Cain was running against a white person, but even then I do not think it would be all that significant.

Think about how there was a belief that Sarah Palin would have women voters flocking to the McCain camp because she was a woman. It really doesn't work that way, especially when the divisions between the parties are greater than ever, thanks to the Republicans seemingly transforming into the party of the batshiat insane.

It's amusing watching conservatives trying to understand racism once they feel they have an opportunity to twist it to their advantage. It's a subject that has historically been so toxic for them that they've spent a generation numbing themselves against it, pretending it doesn't exist and re-framing it as "liberal white guilt".

Now they see a chance to capitalize on victimization-through-racism, but that requires them to treat it as a real thing, and they've simply lost touch with how to do that (as well as the rest of reality). I'm reminded over and over again of the sci-fi trope where a machine tries to understand humor.
