Yeah, I actually like them too. However, It's just too easy to make fun of anyone who's worked with Justin Timberlake.

Anyways back to the point, for every guy in the industry like C murder, there's a thousand who are good decent people who you never hear about.

VoicesCarry asks:

By the way, why hasn't the "rap-is-an-authentic-art-form" crowd crawled out of the woodwork yet?

Oh it is an artform...the question is "is it music?" or merely a derivative of music given it's reliance for the most part on sampled music--usually tunes made popular by someone else.

Also...

Rap in the modern sense (fans of old Country music know that black dudes from the ghetto weren't the first to talk over a record), descends from Disco. "Wrapper's Delight", "Rapture", the list goes on. If Run DMC made it fashionable later on to add a hard rock tune/beat in the background instead of a Disco beat, it's just a horse of a different color, but still a horse. Indeed, many people would argue that early 80s "dance music" was nothing more than Disco with an obligatory guitar solo thrown in....

But he will make someone a hot girlfriend in the showers.

2003-10-01 12:40:27 PM
Technically his family was doing all the weeping. My guess is that he was trying to figure out how he was going to avoid the Aryan Nation dudes that will be gunning for him for the next 50 years....

If his name was C-Pacifist would this have been ironic?

2003-10-01 12:41:34 PM

Why does everyone want to kill me?

it is indeed ironic, if (and only if) you see his name as a protest against pigeonholing rappers as murderers.

2003-10-01 12:51:54 PM
For a rapper, he's not very original, is he?

Did mystikal get convicted? Just curious.

2003-10-01 12:52:53 PM
hdhale: Well it all matters what facility he goes to. There might be a lot of people there who've been on the inside long enough to have never heard of him.

Hell, I didn't really know a lot about him till now.

2003-10-01 12:53:13 PM

By the way, why hasn't the "rap-is-an-authentic-art-form" crowd crawled out of the woodwork yet?

Why bother? The c/rap people won't even give rap a chance, so I don't know how they know they hate it so much. So there is no point in discussing it.

Most of the rap most people hear is pop crap. But there is a lot of good stuff out there. I like mostly the older stuff, but there is some good new stuff coming out too.

Unlike some people, I feel no need to limit myself musicly, I'll give anything a chance. Esp. now that I can download and preview entire albums before I buy.

Not to my knowledge. I knew a girl who went out with Mystikal (someone else from new orleans, for those who didn't know) and she said he was a very nice guy. And quite respectable. She's close to me, and wouldn't have any reason to lie. As far as i know about the guy, he wouldn't do something like this, especially after his older sister (his best friend) was killed by her boyfriend at the time.

Why do these millionaire rappers still go around shooting/stabbing people and getting in fights at nightclubs and shiat?

C Murder's a millionaire?

The funny thing is this isn't just a hip-hop problem. Did anyone see 24-hour Party people?

All sorts of violent shiat can go down at the clubs

The hip hop lifestyle hasn't spawned diva behavior. The egoist behavior has existed in hip hop, true, but it is among the artists, not among the listeners themselves, assuming that's what you're talking about. The culture of hip hop is the furthest thing from 'diva behavior.' Tacky dressing styles exist in all subcultures. Hip hop is no tackier than any other. And i would contend that its probably one of the least tacky dress styles among subculture groups. Baggy/large clothing (sweater/tee/jersey and jeans) and maybe a cap? It gets MUCH tackier than that, trust me.

Where ARE all the rap haters?? I haven't seen them on this thread yet! I hate rap, but I'm not gonna slam someone who does listen to it. The only thing I will say is that white kids who listen to it and try to dress and act like black rappers look really farkin' stupid! Ain't nothin' more silly than a white kid actin' like he's down with the brothers! Yet another aspect of black life and culture stolen from them by white folks! Sheesh!

(6/27/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- Mystikal pleaded guilty on Thursday (June 26) to extortion and battery charges stemming from an incident in 2002 where the rapper/actor forced his hairstylist to perform sex acts of him and two of his bodyguards.

Mystikal--whose real name is Michael Tyler--was originally facing aggravated rape charges, but agreed to a plea deal for the lesser two offenses.

Tyler was sentenced to five years of probation on the extortion charge, and must return to the Baton Rouge courtroom in September for sentencing on the count of sexual battery.

The prosecutor told the court that Tyler summoned his hairdresser to his apartment last summer, and accused her of stealing from him. He allegedly said he would not press charges if she agreed to perform a variety of sex acts on him and his employees, which he then videotaped.

zappa: Where are all the rap haters? I could imagine you arriving in China and yelling "Where are all the Chinese people?"

Seriously though, as much as I hate suburban poseurs (the ones who are usually Ja Rule fans), don't forget that some white people still live in thie city, and have grown up with this.

That being said, Frank Zappa is cool. nice name.

I don't hate rap; I hate the dumbass/thugs/gangsters/rappers that give HIP HOP a bad name.

I read an interview with Andre 3000 (OutKast) who says he doesn't even listen to rap anymore because it's so weak; that the only thing he has any love for now is Aphex Twin. Ironic, no?

Rofl, Fear of a black hat is the bomb! Clothes fads change, and as they move from the fringe to mainstream, evolve. Hip hop, I believe, has done it the best. There are hip hop cultured suits now, for chrissakes! AND THEY'RE NICE! Hip hop is here to stay, at least for the next 10 or so years. "Your children have been assimilated. Resistance is futile."

macabre: yeah, i thought Andre sounded a little bored with rap on the new Outkast album.

I like that he's branching out, (and I DO agree, Aphex Twin kicks ass), I hope he's not giving up on Hip-Hop. Outkast is the only reason I ever got into hip-hop, before that I was an alternative purist. (thank God I escaped THAT trainwreck)

Hip hop is a culture, spawned predominately by blacks, predominately for blacks. Its a culture of isolation and expresses a feeling of exclusion from the norm. Funny that it's caught on by the mainstream. I guess EVERYONE feels excluded from the 'norm,' especially white teens. Who'da thunk?

As we progress, hip hop is becoming more a cultural phenomenon, expressing the views of the culture of poverty not only in urban communities, but in suburban/rural ones as well. Everyone feels left out, excluded, ostracized, in some way shape or form. Hip hop caters to that belief. Bill and Ted had it right, just with the wrong musical style!

2003-10-01 01:57:01 PM
Why all the C-murder hatin'? Did he kill a white kid or something?
