Um, that's not schizophrenia, that's homicidal.

I know, because I am homicidal, not schizophrenic.

FarkinHostile: Um, that's not schizophrenia, that's homicidal.

Right. Schizophrenics are more likely to hear "They're talking about you again... they think you suck... you must suck, because they're talking about you again..."

Actually, it's just one research group...

Growing up I had a friend that was schizophrenic and he wasn't violent at all. He just had ZERO moral compass, period. He would lie about EVERYTHING and tell just the most massive stories it baffled us. He would even lie when the truth was actually MORE benefifical to him. We had never met his mom, she lived out of state, and he told us she was Yakuza and had developed a nano machine that when you took orally, would stick to your stomach and emit a pulse that got you high. I'm not kidding at all. He would borrow money incessantly and you knew it was never getting paid back, go out with us and "forget his wallet" so we had to pay, encourage you to make purchases that benefitted him, etc. He logged more time on my ps3 than I did and not for my lack of trying. THAT is a schizophrenic.

And before the "then why was he your friend?" questions I will say no matter what issues you were having you could always go to his place and he would listen to you vent for a week if needed and gave great advice, helping me out a ton of times. He had a lot of good qualities, it's just he was completely unable to recognize his horrible ones, let alone fix them.

That sounds more like Sociopath then Schizophrenic. Schizophrenic is where you believe that you had to play the PS3 all the time or else Sony will kill your entire family.
/Taking Abnormal Psych right now. Interesting but makes me Paranoid about the diseases since Mental Disease runs in the family.

Almost sounds as if Eric Cartman was your friend.

Jesus, you're completely right, he is a sociopath. Disregard, we'll just call it a CSB.

Nature?
Nurture?

The answer to that question, regarding just about everything in psychology, is both. This should really no longer be a surprise.

My ex's brother was (and presumably still is) a violent schizophrenic. I've got a scar on my chin, a chip on my tooth and a gap in my memory courtesy of him. All his delusions focussed around how everything wrong in his life was his sister's fault. He needed help, and he wasn't getting it because his family was so dysfunctional (the father actively circumvented all court orders designed to keep him away people he'd previously attacked), plus his shrink didn't seem all that interested in helping him.

I'm glad I got away from that trainwreck of a family when I did.

/CSB

There are several different kinds of Schizophrenia. Not all kinds hear voices directing the deaths of those that the dark lord of the purple dog house deems unworthy. My grandmother & brother have disorganized schizophrenia (new window), for instance, and have never harmed anyone intentionally.

Not that they aren't lazy/burnt out/incompetent psychiatrists, but I'm curious how you know this, beyond your ex telling you a secondhand version of something a schizophrenic passed along to her while complaining about his therapist.

but I'm curious how you know this, beyond your biatchy, whiny, judgemental ex telling you a secondhand version of something a schizophrenic her mother passed along to her while complaining about his therapist.

Astute observation on your part.

The story I got was that she was "allowing" him to not take his meds and skip his (court-ordered) appointments because *insert biatchy assumption here*. What I saw was him sitting in a fetid den in the basement receiving no help or treatment and spiralling further into madness.
