I don't see how you could justify not having all the slots be various forms of bacon.

The concept is fine, but it will fail in execution. I'm sure. I just don't see those things getting the service and thorough cleaning they will need. Who's going to remember to take the expired meat out and do more than wipe it down with a wet-wipe?

That better be some pretty high-quality meat. Local butchers around here sell top-quality sirloin at about $6.50 a pound...and who knows how long that meat's been sitting in that vending machine. Think I'll pass on this.

Meh. These guys have nothing on those crab vending machines they have in China.

2011-11-01 10:04:03 AM
Won't the meat get stuck in those spiral coils that push it out?

This.
The amount of loss due to sitting in that machine for days will erase any profit that could be made in sales.

Free Market forces will ensure safety and quality.

I like my meat fresher, and scarier, than any meat machine could deliver. I like it hanging in the window of a carneceria and kept cool by thousands of beating fly wings. Better meat and the thrill of sneaking glances at the butcher's cute daughter as he sharpens his knife in my direction.

Set one of these fu*kers up at any NFL tailgait party. You won't have to worry about outdated meat I bet.

I prefer the butcher to walk the cow in so I can carve off what I like.

I'm sure this will probably work fine in limited market, but I can't see this doing good in larger region.

Not that this concept is that unheard of.. Japan already have vending machine that delivered grilled meat.

You'd think, but people still get sick from poorly maintained soda fountains at fast food restaurants. There are also Free Market forces that try to reduce time and expense to maintain the equipment.

It could do well in a freshman dorm.

Then on Friday night some idiot drunk freshman can tip it onto himself

I don't see what the problem is, as long as 1%ers still have the ability to eat kobe filet mignon straight off the backs of the proletariat slave everyman.

That is a great idea. The camp ground idea in the article is a really good one as well. But setting a few up for tailgating at sporting events is even better and really easy to guarantee the meat is fresh because you can stock the machine the morning before the event.

Gonna take em a few months easy to get the initial investment back before being able to get another machine, but if they can show the potential for their business model to generate a profit in a real setting, they'll be able to score a small business loan easily.

Add ham and pork chops and you'd have a wonderful, magical animal vending machine.

Seems to me the next logical weirder step would also solve the freshness dilemma: an automated abattoir that butchers and delivers the appropriate cuts from livestock living inside the machine.

They better give me some credit for the idea. You know, just a little sticker that says, "Thanks WTFDYW'

I for one wouldnt mind this thing if they were to put some different sausages etc in it. Food safety is so over rated.

I could see it for bacon and jerky, since the first is generally thoroughly cooked, and the second is well-preserved. I really don't think I'd trust a vending machine steak though, especially since I like mine rare.
