I got this to use as the clock next to my bed at night.

I have a piece of Lego.

I have two pieces of Lego.

Just think of it like sand, or water.

Impressive mechanically I guess, but horribly noisy and impractical.

I can think of a couple easier ways to build a digital clock using LEGOs, but none are as impressive visually, or as elegant mechanically.

It's mostly the programming that went into this that is cool. Not that hard to build from a mechanical viewpoint. The effort when in to working out setting up the black squares vs white squares and programming it all out.

I loved it when my dad stepped on one in the middle of the night.

Yeah, I'd like to see a (faster) video of all of the number transitions as well as a map of the black & white squares.
