As I said in the other thread, hopefully, the water damage isn't too extensive. The Magic Castle's collection of magic books and literature as well as historical memorabilia is priceless and irreplaceable.

/Owns a small collection of magic books.

It's too bad it's in LA. The damage is one thing, and it can be replaced.

But LA sucks, and there's nothing that can fix that.

It's ironic because you wouldn't expect a magic castle to be flammable on Halloween day

2011-11-01 11:07:28 AM
125 firefighters responded.

Wow. That's one hell of an expensive fire-puttin'-out.

I hope they have it under control though. What a beautiful building.

This isn't ironic, because there's no subversion of expectations. It's merely coincidental. Now, had they built the castle specifically so it was not flammable and advertised that people should visit it because it's 100% safe from fire, THEN it would be ironic.

Truth in advertising strikes again.

The Magic Castle, one of the city's landmarks, was built in 1908 for the family of a banker.

Fluck it! Let it burn! Then guillotine it a few times!

It was just an illusion.

So many irreplacable and secret Unknown Secrets of Magic will be lost, certainly. This will only enhance the Mystery and Wonder that is Magic. And while most magic is just an illusion, an illusion can be magical.

Mark my words, young people, years from now this will be used to enshroud magicians in more secrecy. Oh, we used to know how to do that but it was lost in The Fire.

Oh, Houdini had it in his journal, how he died and spoke to ancient Egyptian mystics and brought back their secrets from beyond the grave but it was lost in The Fire.

From tfa: Moore said the cause of the fire was still undetermined.

Wonder if they had one of those new "smart" meters. They've been associated with "unexplained" fires.

It was the ghost of Houdini, who died on Halloween 1926. He said that he'd try to contact us from beyond the grave, and for some reason it took 85 years.

He said that as firefighters were battling the flames in the attic, others were using rolls of plastic to help mitigate water and smoke damage to the Magic Castle's priceless artifacts, which include paintings, furniture, photographs and other memorabilia.

Yeah, priceless. At least that's what they will tell the insurance company. What priceless memorabilia do they have? Because if it's related to magicians, I don't care if it's Harry Houdini's underwear with a trap door, it is no where near the "priceless" category.

AlanisMorissette: I'm not seeing anything ironic here, subby. I know irony, and that headline isn't.

It's not even unexpected. That thing has always been a fire hazard.
