Wait. Black people are part of the 99% too now?

And the black community is not unfamiliar with the concept of political activism?

Has Ric Romero been alerted?

/See, white people have names like Lenny, while black people have names like Carl.

No, no, no. This is just another one of Libberton Post's lies. We all know that Occupy Wall Street protesters--all of them--are white trust-fundies with dreadlocks and daddy's credit card.

Right? Anyone?

Hot Rod Zoidberg: are white trust-fundies with dreadlocks and daddy's credit card.

No,. They are too busy getting ready for ski season.
gotta load up the 'rents last year's SUV with weed and rad gear, some Phish CDs, and a good cell phone.
then secure a rental in a funky farmhouse so they can bang some young, dumb, and full of cum co-ed, ruin her changes at a career, and finally settle down and get a real job at an organic greenhouse while building a self sustaining mini commune in the woods.

Unlike their downtown comrades, those in attendance were mostly black and Latino, save for a handful of whites who sat and listened intently, a few lifting their fists to shouts of "Power to the People."

Anyone else think that's oddly worded? Or was it just the whities shouting power to the people?

It's so annoying when guys like this try to inject race into the discussion like this. The whole 1% versus 99% thing is not about race. They use race as a tool to keep the 99% divided so that the "us versus them" is never the people rebelling against the aristocrats. Injecting race into this discussion only plays into their hands even more. Your race doesn't matter to these people. Only your net worth matters to them, so that they know you're one of them, and that you want to maintain the status quo which keeps the rich rich and the poor poor.

Repeat: By making this about black versus white, you are basically sabotaging any chance of changing the most relevant "us versus them" to the 99% versus the 1%. If you make it about race, you are basically dividing the 99% in half. Race tension has been a tool of the aristocracy in this country since its inception.

Where is it "versus"? It just seems like a white guy standing in a room going "I think a thing" and a black guy saying "I agree!"

2011-11-01 11:33:07 AM
Since nobody else seems to have noticed, the article calls out one of the organizers of this demonstration as a member of the Revolutionary Communist Party:

"There is just something in the air now around standing up," said Carl Dix, a representative of the Revolutionary Communist Party in New York. Dix has been deeply involved in planning the protests and was one of those arrested during the protests in Harlem."

It must be exciting for them, after so many years of talking and talking about building a mass movement in the United States, to have a mass movement erupt. I doubt the RCP or any other Communist group (or revolutionary Marxist group) is going to have any success at selling their ideology to the masses, but their skills at running meetings and organizing demonstrations could turn out to be useful.

What are we made of? Our fathers came across the prairie, fought Indians, fought drought, fought locusts, fought Dix - remember when Richard Dix came in here and tried to take over this town? Well, we didn't give up then, and by gum, we're not gonna give up now.

There's like a civil war going on between #OWS. There's two sides: there's the 99% and the 1%. And the 1% has got to go! Every time the 99% want to have a good time, ignorant ass 1%ers fark it up! Can't do shiat without some ignorant ass 1%ers farking it up. Can't do nothing! Can't keep a disco open more than three weeks!

You sound white.

/we're only about 15% of the population so it wouldn't be divided in half, really.

Hey buddy, no one is claiming this is a versus scenario. However, Occupy Wall Street is being portrayed by some in the media as a 'mostly white, privileged college student' movement, in order to discredit it, so prominent black activists are making a statement by having an occupy protest in Harlem, to say this is not a movement of mostly whites, or blacks, but all peoples.

You seriously need to stop injecting race-denialism into this discussion. Pretending race doesn't matter allows the one percent to further marginalize non-whites.
