So now they elect a couple as king and queen? As I recall, we elected a king and queen separately. They sat on the float together, had one dance together at the homecoming dance and then, given that they probably weren't a couple, went their separate ways with their respective dates. Being the mean bastards we were, there was a hotshot who wanted to be king so we elected him and then a bunch of us conspired to elect the, shall we say, homeliest young lady in the school to be the queen. Our campaign worked. As of our 40th reunion, he hadn't forgiven us. And, as of our 40th reunion, there wasn't an ounce of repentance on the part of any of the conspirators.
