Modern medicine still can't create a functional penis, so many FTMs don't get any sort of genital surgery.

Those that do, usually get what's called a metoidioplasty, which frees the clitoris somewhat (which has been enlarged from testosterone treatment).
In some very successful cases, it may look like a small penis.

Less commonly, there's what's called a phalloplasty which involves harvesting the skin from your arm (or somewhere else on your body) and creating a phallus out of it. But it's generally just to make it look like a penis and to urinate out of. It doesn't get hard. It can't be used for sex and lacks the sensitivity of a penis.

So, a lot of transguys just opt not to have any sort of genital surgery.

Yeah, I know a few trans people with kids, including a trans man who gave birth. He always knew he wanted kids, his husband was totally on board, so they had a kid. They ran into a few issues along the way, had to work harder than most people to have a medical team they were comfortable with, and it turns out it's kind of tough to find pregnancy clothes for a man, but otherwise it was pretty much like anyone else having a kid. He cringes whenever Beattie makes the news; he wasn't the first pregnant man, just the loudest, and the way he worked the publicity wasn't exactly positive for the trans community. That said, the vitriolic reaction from the public is really kind of sickening. Trans people can be good or bad parents, just like anyone else.

Apparently they needed the money, and there was a lot of curiosity about this, so they went for it. I don't see them begging for a reality show. And really I haven't heard too much about it.
