I liked Waterworld and the Postman. There, I said it.

And he'll always be better than Nicholas Cage.

No Way Out was really good, but Will Patton and Gene Hackman should have got top billing instead of Costner & Young.

Western, baseball, Kennedys.

Wheel. Of. COSTNER!

Yeah, Silverado should have been on there and Untouchables should have been #1.

Remove Robin Hood, add Bull Durham and bump A Perfect World up a couple of notches.

2011-10-31 09:39:28 AM
Not a bad list by any means. Costner and Duvall should just do serious Westerns for the rest of their careers.

Movie was decent, but not great, even with Guster.

Sounds fair. I still think A Perfect World should have gotten a Best Picture nomination. It's still one of Eastwood's most solid all-around directing efforts.

total, complete fail. that movie was so freaken boring.

Wasn't Looking at his Neck: No Silverado...

Came here to say this. Silverado was easily better than multiple movies on that list. Especially Robin Hood. That shows how unremarkable his movies are that Robin Hood even made the list.

mase_face: They seem to have misplaced Mr. Brooks somewhere.

Agreed. I saw that on a rainy afternoon when I was just looking to kill time. Hadn't heard of it before, and if I knew it starred Costner and Dane Cook, I never would have gone into the theater, but they were both great. Who knew Dane could be such a convincingly smarmy douchebag?

"all I did was kiss a girl"

That was one of his first big roles (except for the corpse in The Big Chill) and someone must have told him that he was too animated so he spent the rest of his career on sedatives to compensate.

And Waterworld wasn't that bad. It had a ridiculous premise but if James Cameron had made the same movie it would have made $600 mill.

Saw it as a kid. The music, the comedy, the great cast and it was just fun. Probably my favorite western, even though I realize it's not the best western. That would be Unforgiven. But that isn't nearly as fun.

John Cleese: "As you chaps may have realized, I'm not from around these parts."
Kevin Kline: "You're kidding."

Unless I'm mistaken, the scabbard snaps open along one length. You have to re-snap it shut to put the weapon away, but since you never put a sword away without having first killed all your enemies, you should have plenty of time.

I believe the Japanese employed a similar technology for some of their swords, though again this isn't my area of expertise by any means.

for those saying Robin Hood sucks - well... yeah, Kevin isn't GREAT in the role, he doesn't attempt an English accent, but the movie has one GREAT scene. That is at the end when Robin is fighting Nottingham. They are sword fighting and out of all the movies I have seen - that is the ONE scene where it really looks like two men trying to kill each other with swords. No fencing, no Princess Bride bullshiat fighting stances; just two pissed off men with big swords trying to do each other in. It really looks authentic.

There are good movies inside of both Waterworld and The Postman, they just really need editing badly. Cut them down to 90 minutes of mostly action sequences and they become good action adventure movies.

I assume you like golf because of your screen name, but I thought Costner's swing was only slightly better than Tony D'Annunzio's. And his southern accent was annoying too. I always thought Bill Murray would have been a better fit. And the ending sucked balls too. Other than that, I thought it was a decent flick.

Since we're admitting that we like some Kevin Costner movies, I really liked Wyatt Earp.

Well it had the misfortune of competing with Tombstone.

For Love of the Game is a seriously underrated film, so while I can understand it not being included on the list, I consider it an oversight.

BULL MOTHERFARKING DURHAM not being on the list is just flat-out trolling.

Overall, I agree. Until the very end that is. The makers could have cut some time from elsewhere in the film to cover Earp's justice/revenge more fully, instead of the rush job they did. I think Earp covered Earp's moral ambiguity far better than Tombstone. And as much as I loved Kilmer's Doc Holiday, Dennis Quaid owned it.

Bull Durham was much better than some on that list. I think Dances with Wolves is overrated and JFK should not even be on the list. I would even put For the Love of the Game on the list before JFK. Open Range should be #1.

The ending of the tournament, or the ending ending? I thought the way the tournament went was fantastic. I thought it was a great golf movie, and he swings a golf club like he swings a baseball bat, but it wasn't a terrible swing at all. Bill Murray would have been a terrible fit in that movie. Bill Murray is a goofball, but he's not a dirtbag anymore, Costner pulls off dirtbag pretty well.

I think your dislike for the movie may stem from Rene Russo's involvement with it. I agree, it's hard to get past. She's trying so hard to be Susan Sarandon in Bull Durham, and she just sucks all the fun out of the movie, but you have to look past that. Once you do, I think you'll really enjoy the film.
