I don't understand the submiter's headline.

Um.... Yes they lost last year.... but....

Have the Steeler's been champions once or twice? Um... let's look at the league RECORD HOLDERS:

Most Super Bowl Wins (Six).
Most Trips to the Super Bowl (8 - tied with Dallas).
Most AFC Conference Championships won (8) - which gives the Steelers two more AFC Conference Championships than any other AFC franchise.
Most Conference Championship games played in [AFC or NFC] (15 - all with AFC).
Most Conference Championship games hosted [AFC or NFC] (11).
Second Most Division Titles won by any team in the history of the NFL (20 - Second only to Dallas' 21) (all with AFC Central & North)

I guess that makes them former champions a few times over.

Lost Thought 00: Best ending to a game ever.

The strip and Polamalu punching the ball had the broadcast announcers confused over the review of the play by the refs..

For an offense under the "Casper Rule" it's a dead ball when the offense 'advances' the ball....it was a live ball for the defence going 'backeards' toward the Pats starting possesion.

The only review was if Hood was in the end zone for a defensive TD or or a safety.

Actually, I think the review was because the refs wanted to watch what Polamalu did in slow motion. "Holy shiat, did you see that?" "He's not allowed to do that." "Yeah, but watch it full speed- it's like a goddamn kung-fu movie. You don't even see his arm move."

The ref should have explained that before starting the review.

I'm confused as hell by the Pats kick after the safety. Why kick it out of bounds when you have no time outs and the Steelers only have to kneel once? Why not punt it high and hope for a fluke play in your favor? The odds of it happening are close to 0, but there was still a very very very remote possibility...

2011-10-31 09:17:53 AM
As a Steelers fan, I say calm the fark down about how they're going to smack up the rest of the league. They have what's probably a tougher challenge next week against the Ravens, who embarrassed them in week 1. If they win then, we can start calling them the hottest team in the AFC.

An onside kick on a safety free kick is probably the second least practiced kick in the game, behind a dropkick extra point. He kicked it too high/hard. Probably the only time he'll be asked to onside a free kick in his career. Essentially, you don't need to be confused about kicking it out of bounds. It was an onside kick gone bad. If you kick it high the opposing team can fair catch it.

I think they were trying for some sort of onside dropkick but Gostkowski put too much mustard on it. Maybe he was trying to make up for his whiff on the onside kick earlier in the 4th, I don't know.

I'm pretty shocked Belichick didn't challenge Gronk's "touchdown" catch with about 4 minutes left. I was especially surprised when the Pats offense was taking forfarkingever to line up on the next play and let damn near 40 seconds run off the clock. At that point I figured he would have thrown the flag to hope for the double bonus of a touchdown and more time back on the clock.

Well, I think it's a two parter:
1) Coach didn't want to waste a timeout when they were down by more than one score and on the goalline
2) Brady was trying to give time to the coaches to check for a review

Ultimately, if the Patriots actually had a run game that could make any forward progress at all in the red zone they wouldn't have been in the predicament of taking 5 plays to move 1 yard.

I see no one saying they'll kick asstiges the rest of the schedule just because we got over the Brady Curse.

But your concern about the Ravens is duly noted.

I agree with all of the above. My buddy and I were screaming for Belichick to throw the flag, even on TV you could tell that Gronkowski was reallllly close to a TD...

Lol, you funnay. Only team that's scary is Green Bay. Lions seem very beatable the last few weeks. Bears...meh. And Purple Jesus is awesome, but they ain't doin nothin this year.

Just good to see Brady's "Manning face" when things aren't going his way.. Great game, Stillers just beat the Pats at that middle of the field passing game they're so good at. Once they figured out how to stop it, you could see Brady checking the clock, changing more plays and being a lil nervous in general. Disruption is key!

Its the Steelers who should be worried. Even though they dominated most of the game, they couldnt quite deliver a knock-out. The Pats were still in it very deep into the 4th quarter. Brady and the offense had the ability to defeat them and I think they knew it. And this was with home field.

THIS
THAT
AND THEN SOME

I farking hate the Patriots. Yes, Brady is a HOF QB. Yes, at times they looked unbeatable. Yes, Hoodie is a HOF coach ... But he still coached the BROWNS, was Parcells' errand boy, and Cowher beat him senseless like clockwork. I hate them with the fire of a thousand suns. I respect the Ravens, though. They are a good team and always put up a great game, ass whippins on both sides of the ball ... That will be a fantastic game.

Clash City Farker: Even though they dominated most of the game, they couldnt quite deliver a knock-out.

Considering that the Steelers consistently lose to the Patriots, this was a massive improvement. Brady has never had any trouble shredding the secondary. If the Steelers can beat the Ravens next week, they're going to be able to basically coast their way to the playoffs with the back half of the schedule.

FTA: You can't say Pittsburgh is back when it never went away in the first place, but you can tell the Steelers are figuring things out again, and that's never a good development for the title dreams of 31 other NFL teams.

Oh man, that was ugly. Run-on sentence, and the usage of "you" twice in the same paragraph. Plus, the "but" in that sentence make 0 sense. If they never faded away, then its not a surprise that "theyre figuring things out." This guy gets paid to write?

Well, they finally found out that if you put Brady on his ass all game it doesn't matter how well you can cover as long as you defend the slant/screen. The Giants found this out years ago, but teams still have plenty of trouble with it. It's even worse now for the Patriots since Brady can't put a deepball anywhere near their only deep threat(Chad Johnson)

Yeah, not being able to put together a 60 minute domination of THE PATRIOTS, guys, the Steelers should be really worried.

bhcompy: Well, they finally found out that if you put Brady on his ass all game it doesn't matter how well you can cover as long as you defend the slant/screen.

The Steelers are a zone-blitz team. Brady can pass into a quick slant against a zone-blitz all day. They switched to man coverage and suddenly the only passes Brady could get off were when one of his receivers managed to fake out the coverage. That lead to him holding the ball longer, and hence getting roughed up a bit more.

The have a half game on the Ravens because the Ravens already had their bye. Also, NE is the first real quality team they've faced so far this year and they barely beat them... and NE is hurting bad on D.

Because, as we all know, a team's history is what makes all the difference, not how they're playing right now. Furthermore, everyone on the current team can take credit for all of what the team did twenty or thirty years ago, right?

And the Ravens lost to the Titans and Jags. Two terrible teams that the Steelers beat with relative ease. Flacco proved yesterday that he is not a good QB and the Ravens will go nowhere because of him. They had a historic comeback against the Cards, who the Steelers beat down the week before.
This Sunday: Steelers 31 Ravens 23.

A free kick can be fair caught. So can a kickoff, for that matter. That's why onside kicks are kicked directly into the ground, once the ball bounces there can be no fair catch.
