They do seem to have a lot of exposure.

They have a negative outlook.

I'm not seeing anything in there about fixing their shiatty customer service half-assed slow software that sends me to Photoshop for even the most minor tweaks because it's quicker.. I like Kodak for my point and shoot cameras, but even if I had the cash, I'd have to think long and hard about my struggles with them on the phone/over e-mail before I pick up another.

Hell, last time I tried to download an update to the software just so I could rotate one of their videos, it utterly failed. It was one of those pointless install files that immediately connects to the web to actually download the file. Their people were unsympathetic and just kept repeating the same failed script in different wording, which amounted to downloading the same shiatty file that never worked and checking my firewall. Nobody else I could find on the Googles with the same error had ever resolved it, and I was eventually forced to go third party just to do the simplest of tasks.

Maybe instead of mining their patent portfolio, they should focus on not driving loyal customers away.

/It sucks

They should probably give it a Tri-X.

Just the other day I was discussing this with someone and said... 'Kodak should come up with a 15 mp camera for the smart phones, see how fast they retake the market share'... Considering the new iPhones haven't even caught up to my old 10mp Z740 purchased in 2005. That, and if they were to be the first to come up with an Iron Man-style 3D holographic interface that worked (cuz hey, imaging, figure they should be working on something like that)... I'd be right back on board. Watched a lot of people in Rochester lose their jobs over the last 20 years, wish they'd take their heads out of the sand.

Texas Instruments pursued the patents-for-profit strategy in the 1980s and for a while the licensing revenues outstripped anything that they were making in semiconductors. TI even managed to make the licensing complementary to their business, offering to waive patent fees if you used their video chips.

You mean licensing patents is more profitable than actually producing a product?

/Consider how sick and retarded that is.

They could put a 100 MP CCD in your phone and the image quality wouldn't change. It isn't the limiting factor in image quality.

I have a several years old Kodak digital, I think it is only a 7.1 MP, and it takes much better pics than the 14 MP camera I have from Canon. I have ended up taking both cameras to places lately just to test that perception and the Kodak takes much better pics. I have no clue why. I have tried every setting possible (including plain auto) and the Kodak is still better.

Assuming sensor size is the same, and the exposure settings were similar, I could see that.

As pixel counts increase, each pixel gets smaller, so it's being hit with less light. In order to produce a serviceable image, the pixel signal has to be amplified, which will introduce noise. Noise can be compensated for but noise correcting algorithms haven't really kept pace with increasing pixel counts, especially in the consumer end cameras.
