I had a dishwasher who had gotten involved with the Aryan Nation--he went to prison, and he got involved because it offered some protection, and in Lowell, that's the sort of thing that you kind of need--and he kept his tats to remind him why he never, ever, wanted to go back to prison, or that life. Then again, he didn't exactly go that hard into it. I don't blame the guy for getting that mass removed. Damn...

Is it wrong of me to doubt him? Not that I think he's still involved in the movement actively or anything, but I doubt he's given up that hate. I doubt that he doesn't irrationally hate minorities. He's just learned to hide it.

I hope he makes a clean break of it, turns his life around, and always remembers that he was a welfare case to the tune of $35,000 for the surgeries.

And as for the discomfort -- stupid should hurt.

I disagree. If Robert Byrd can do it, then this guy can do it. And if you think former Senator Byrd never got over his hate, then why would the democrats kept on appointing him to key positions.

Including lie about what they really believe. He left not because he didn't believe, but because he realized he couldn't get a job.

I don't particularly care if he still hates, so long as he never acts on it again, and he doesn't teach that hate to his children.

I'm virtually certain that he still holds prejudices and I really don't care. He looks like he's actively seeking to move past those prejudices, or when they form in his mind to squash the thoughts.

I was raised in a racist household, and I didn't start losing that until my late teens/early 20s. I'm in my late 20s now, so I haven't been out of the racist mindset for all that long. I still prejudge people by the color of their skin when I see them. The difference is, I know that I should not feel that way, and I actively suppress those thoughts when they come up. I don't always succeed, but I'm getting better, and it's something I continue to work on.

If you want to think less of me for having those thoughts in the first place, then fine. It's not something I can control; it's a reflex based on the first 20 years of my life. Same goes for this guy. He's putting in an effort to undo some of the damage he's done, and I support that 100%.

I think he probably consciously wants to give it up and recognized that it's wrong. That shiat is ingrained pretty deep though and it takes a lot to purge it. I wish him luck. Tim Zaal is an example of someone who knows that battle.

Any of you young Farkers just starting out and looking for a good career ought to consider a tattoo removal business.

Figure one session at $80 to put it on, followed by 10 sessions at $180 each to take it off; multiply that by every idiot with a tattoo, times number of tattoos per idiot, and it works out to------

I don't even know what it works out to, my calculator broke.

If the skin is removed properly, he probably has enough to make a small lampshade.

There is no such thing as a truly prejudice free person.

Everyone has their irrational hatreds of another group of people. It's built into us to associate our 'tribe' as better then another.Be that tribe a race difference, rich or poor, fans of different sports teams, etc etc.
However to be civilized we have all learned to suppress or ignore those primal feelings instead of embracing them.

He seems to be sincere. His tat removal was the subject of a show on I think AMC or TLC, and he was the most intense person I ever saw about not wanting to be part of that lifestyle anymore. The fact he could stick with all that pain and horror--and it was really horrible, I couldn't even watch most of the show--pretty much proved to me he wanted out of the hate&evil part of the movement at the very least.

Now, do he and his wife still have the same irrational prejudices that brought them into the fringes of White Power in the first place? Probably. You don't lose those overnight. Does he still see a black man and a white girl together and feel a gut-twist of hate? I don't doubt it. But as long as he doesn't leap from his car and beat the crap out of that black man, and as long as he doesn't tell his kid "Man, I hate seeing n*ggers going with white girls," then who cares what's going on inside him?

What's going on inside YOU that you don't want anyone to know about?
