Thank you very much, Mr. President Peace Prize. Perhaps Obama just doesn't want a bunch of unemployed ex combat soldiers hanging out in America.

2011-10-30 02:29:51 PM
It's called protecting your investment. Plus once Rick Perry is elected President he can invade Iran.

Don't worry Gary, once you guys elect a Republican in '12 we'll be invading a whole list of new countries. Those WMDs have to be somewhere.

Good thing we don't have more important matters to solve, and can blow all these resources on staging the next war.

Troop build up to invade a different country, maybe?

How long after Reagan did we leave troops in Germany? It seems to me that this would be a typical response.

/asking, I really don't know.

So let me see if I understand this.

Obama promised to effect a withdrawal from Iraq.
Obama has announced that such a withdrawal will take place.
Conservatives are now whining because we'll still have troops overseas.

I wonder if they'll ever get around to complaining about Korea

It's not just conservatives.

Lol, don't you guys know we never totally leave? C'mon now, we've got a military-industrial complex to maintain!

And the weather here today was awesome! Perfect cool weather, no rain. Good cigar, good scotch and paid to live in and travel around Europe. This doesn't suck at all.

/jumped out of bed an hour early this morning, though. Stupid time change. :P

Maybe the President is fond of the "no touching" game. You know, when someone tells you not to touch them so you put your finger really close and taunt them, "I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you!"

That's it, Barack Obama is the last republican I'm ever voting for.

As long as they are over in that general direction, they could do some target practice on the Somali pirates.

We will never leave, at least, not until the Big Collapse. Big Oil wants us there and they are giving the orders. If you think that sounds stupid or kneejerk let's wait until 2050 and then see what the situation is.

This is of course an example of what happens when Subby doesn't RTFA.

This residual force is OBVIOUSLY preparing to seize Dubai so we can get access to awesome designer goods, not for invading Iraq.

Subby,

The Mission Accomplished banner referred to that ship's mission at the time, not to the reconstruction of Iraq.

America has signed a contract, in blood, with Kuwait for protection til the end of time.

/I am waiting for the war against Pakistan and then India sneaks into Pakistan while Pakistans army is moving into Afghanistan.
//Covert now you heathen christians.

2011-10-30 04:06:22 PM
i don't see what the big issue is here. they are letting iraq stand on it's own while maintaining a presence. generally its considered good etiquette to not leave a complete power vacuum in countries that you illegally invade.

He had that press conference to announce the end of major combat operations in Iraq. It wasn't merely for that ship, Bush was trying to push the perception that the war was over.

I wasn't aware we were at war with Kuwait. Unless of course trollmitter forgets there was a standing force in Kuwait after Saddam attacked there. I gets a bit cheaper when they aren't shooting at stuff.

you do realize that the only American presence on the oil fields is a partial stake in a single project?

oh wait, then your "argument" won't hold any water.

I hold some media to a high standard. I may or not may be a supporter of official policy but, in a supposedly well written article you do not refer to the President of the US as Mr. Obama.

"Mr. Obama and his senior national security advisers have sought to reassure allies and answer critics, including many Republicans,..."

If it was quoted from some less than reputable source I would not be peeved but...

/Damn! I am going to go on ignore lists after this.

Oh Bama! Was this guy elected just to run some sort of tail-scouting operation for the Republicans?

Keeping a military presence in the Gulf Region is standard operating procedure. The idea that the US wouldn't maintain a presence there is laughable. Anybody who thought the US would withdraw all troops and the entire region would join hands and sing Kumbaya is seriously delusional.

The toppling of the Hussein regime has created a major power vacuum and the sensible military response is to maintain the ability to project force should the need arise. Did anybody think the US would completely withdraw from the Middle East? Because I have this bridge I'd like to sell them.

GaryPDX: Thank you very much, Mr. President Peace Prize. Perhaps Obama just doesn't want a bunch of unemployed ex combat soldiers hanging out in America.

We have invasion plans for every piece of land on this planet. We call these plans "in case shiat happens."

Drop the pretense. Find reality. I'll get on my knees if that's what it takes.

Okay you foreign policy geniuses, you don't like us parking a whole bunch of troops in Kuwait. How would you keep Iran from waltzing in and taking over? Or when the farked up excuse for a government collapses?

/here is the part where I blame Bush

Do you think Iran will have any easier of a job keeping the peace there than we will? Let them waste their money.

2011-10-30 04:31:38 PM
Um.... Duh?

Seriously the middle east is a hot bed full of loons if shiat hits the fan I would rather hear "we were able to respond with in hours to diffuse the situation" over "all hell has broken lose tens of thousands are dead or wounded, hundreds of thousands are displaced, the enemy is digging in and we'll be there in just one week".

Dear god if the black guy cured cancer you ass hats would be biatching about all the oncologist he put out of work and the extra load put on social security.

Seriously go fark your selves.
