cretinbob: Good thing climate change is bullshiat.

Years ago we were in a coming ice age. Then it was global warming. Now that that has been proven wrong, they have changed the name to the all inclusive "climate change" so they can minimize their probability of being wrong.

Is there climate change? Sure-it's call seasons.

Is it worse because of manufacturing? Probably not. But if you are a democrat, you have to have a reason to propose extorting $$$ from large manufacturers and utilities.

In AZ, summer is arriving earlier and leaving later.

We were near 100 degrees all last week. 100 in late October is crap, and it goes beyond the heat island effect in Maricopa county. The entire Southwest was affected.

Ugh, why does this have to become a climate issue? I highly doubt climate change has any significant effect on this. This was a synoptic-scale Nor'Easter, which does not represent global climate. This isn't "for" or "against" climate change -- it's a weather event.

Second, the "we were in an ice age" hopefully refers to a time that was MANY years ago. The 1970s deal was not highly-supported scientific consensus. Heck, it acts as good evidence as to why, when assessing global climate trends, one shouldn't only look at a 5-10 year scale. Second, even if we ignore that part, it's not like you should ignore all future-looking science because past scientific hypotheses were incorrect. If you do want to ignore the current widely-supported researched because some scientists' hypotheses may not have worked out correctly in the past, then I hope you never get on a plane to fly to Asia, since you'll fall off the edge of the earth. Oh, you probably don't want to take any modern medicines since scientists have been wrong about some pharmaceuticals in the past as well. After all, if some researchers were wrong about thalidomide, then I hope you never have a need for any "new" drugs since "science" may be wrong about those as well.

/ Ugh, no need to bring climate change into this weather event that affected a very, very small area of the earth
// No need to bring climate change into the exceptional drought (D4) and record-breaking summer heat that's been occurring in the southern Plains this year

Obviously this global colding is caused by global warming. So yes, let's just call it "climate change".

/PS, where are the hurricanes worse than and more often than Katrina that we were threatened would be caused by global warming? Not that I want them, but the global warminganistas sure wanted them in order to be proven "right".

No, moron. Climate-change was coined because dumbasses like you aren't able to differentiate that just because the globe is warming, that there are other climate changes as well. If one area is affected by droughts then water has to come down somewhere else, it doesn't just disappear.

And there's a difference between weather, seasons, and climate. You should learn some science, it's how the world works.

When I was a kid in Florida, around 11 to 12 yrs old, we had cold winters. Water in bird baths and boats froze, there were fish kills along the Indian River, people left their sprinklers on over night to keep pipes from freezing and turned their lawns and bushes into ice sculptures by morning. Us kids went out the evening before a hard freeze and covered the plants my folks wanted saved with palmetto leafs, towels or old sheets. Ice would sometimes form along the edges of the shallow water in slow running ditches.

Back then, the groves would crank up these huge wind machines to stir up the air over the citrus trees and they'd drone all night. Others would fire up smudge pots and people would be in and out of the area until dawn.

Since we had a well, at least one year the pipes froze and we had to wait until they thawed in the day and I recall picking up a hose early one morning and having it crack from the cold. We scraped ice off our windshields and used to start the cars about 30 minutes before going anywhere to get the heaters working.

Then, it snowed in my town of Vero Beach. I'd never seen snow before. That was in the early 70's. I recall leaving a friends house around 1 am and finding the air full of what appeared to be ash and light drifts on my car. Then I realized it was snow. I made my first and only snowball and smacked my friend with it.

This was through the 50's and early 70's. By the late 60's, the real cold winters had begun to ease up. By the end of the 70's, winter consisted of a handful of real cold days and few frost warnings. By the middle 80's, the tall wind machines in the groves disappeared, smudge pots became a thing of the past and fish kills on the Indian River were rare.

For the past decade, we've run our air conditioners during the winter, turning them off occasionally when the local temperatures dropped into the 60's. The last time I had to thaw pipes was some time in the 80's.

So from around the middle 50's to the 80's, Florida went from having long, real cold winters to mild ones, with occasional freezes.

Global warming? Possibly. I sure as heck noticed the difference here in Florida. I actually miss the cold winters, because I like the cold and hate the hot, humid summers we have that seem to drag on forever.

It used to get cold in late October. By December we were wearing winter coats and firing up the heaters. I recall as kids, Christmas was always quite cold. I delivered papers in the 70's and recall many a freezing night where my hands ached from the cold and a couple of times, I brought my papers home, folded them in the warmth of my house, loaded up the car and then took off.

What we have now I don't even consider winter.

The major change I've noticed, aside from the warming up, is that when we do have a hard freeze, suddenly various vegetable crops are wiped out and the prices in the stores go up. Odd how that never seemed to happen in the 50's and 60's, when we had even more farm land. By the middle 70's, it seemed that, especially in the northern states, companies which provided fuel oil for heat could never manage to accumulate enough and the costs soared and reports of folks freezing to death in their homes started showing up.

Here in Florida, by the 80's, the cost of propane gas, used for heating, always wound up nearly doubling in price for winter -- but, then again, so did the power bills.

So, actually, 'early winter' seems to me like things might be going back to 'normal'.

As for Global Warming, the population has more than tripled since the 1950's across the globe and industrialization has spread far and wide. I would expect this to have some negative effect on the climate.

In my town alone, more than 3/4 of the undeveloped land is now developed. The amount of cars on the local roads has more than quadrupled. Huge tracts of old growth forests have been plowed down and hundreds of miles of new paved roads have popped up. The most noticeable thing is that we went from 0 air pollution to mild to medium levels.

Plus, the Indian River went from having huge stocks of tasty fish, to now requiring fishing limits and conservation efforts.

I figure all of the development has changed the heat signature for the town tremendously.

Been out of power near Hartford for the last day. I've been here many years, and I have never seen so many trees downed by a single storm... hell, all the snow we had last winter combined didn't take down as many trees as this storm did.

Thankfully I bought a generator on a whim Saturday afternoon. Runs my pellet stove, couple laptops, lights, and a couple other small-wattage items.

Forgot to add that you can't tell those people anything. They have made up their minds that they're going to believe that way and so no matter what the weather is, it's proof that they're right. The least they could to is to be honest and tell why they have chosen to believe that way.
