"But I get no satisfaction in hearing that someone may be in danger of losing their job over this. I would much prefer a look at why 'security' has been used to justify so many intrusions on our civil liberties, rather than fire a person who made a mistake."

nah - we're just gonna fire the idiot who wrote you a creepy note, then look up pictures of you on the internet and try to imagine what sort of faces you make when you use that vibrator later on this week.

what? don't look at me like that. you know I'm right.

The incident came just days after two former TSA screeners pleaded guilty to conspiring to steal $40,000 from a cash-laden bag that had been checked onto an American Airlines flight at Kennedy Airport.

WTF? Who the fark checks a suitcase full of cash post-911? Who the fark checks anything of value in the Age of the TSA?

And WTF to the screener, too. Protip - when you find the bag full of cash, you don't tell anyone. You just steal it, like you would a camera or jewelry or a nice bag or something. No one would think anything of you just stealing, for Elvis' sake, its the farking TSA. But no - you had to tell, and then cut someone in on the cash, who told, and on and on until there were enough people who knew about it to ensure one of them would talk when the owner complained.

Kreist - do we now have to come over there and teach you stupid muthafarkers how to steal from us??

It's clearly a violation of her privacy and the man/woman was rightly disciplined over it, but I honestly think I would have laughed it off if it had been me.

It's airline policy not to imply ownership in the event of a dildo. We use the indefinite "A dildo." Never "Your dildo."

Obligatory

2011-10-30 02:30:03 AM
Now the article says she doesn't want someone fired for making a mistake.

When did mistake go from being something that "happened by accident that you mishandled or missed inadvertently thereby causing harm to something"........to "deliberate action showing the complete absence of any type of forethought if not outright proving evidence of outrageous stupidity?"

Well, that seems very professional of that TSA screener.

To professionalize, you must federalize.

Hmm...seems to be working swimmingly.

We are all human and do stupid shiat all the time. That stupid shiat is called mistakes. Sometimes mistakes constitute sexual harassment opening up your employer to a huge liability..

There's plenty of unemployed people looking for work, I bet many of them know how to behave professionally, whether they'll work for the peanuts the TSA offers is another question, but they exist.

Everyone is expendable and should be elated for peanuts. Hell, the next person should get peanuts minus one just to teach them all an abject lesson.

Proof that the TSA really needs to hire better employees and put them through better training.

And I know people say "Why would you put cash or valuables in checked luggage?" but I find it worse that you need to think that people who handle your luggage may be a thief.

2011-10-30 03:06:02 PM
Ok, I just want to make sure I understand this.

According to TSA rules: Stealing from bags is ok, but putting stupid notes into them is not.
Using a machine that takes nude photos of passengers and passing around the pictures is fine, but making a harmless joke about a vibrator is bad.

Someone correct me if I have that wrong....oh how I wish I got that wrong.

I thought it was kind of funny. :( I would've laughed my ass off at a message like that. I don't understand the woman's outrage - how can you be that serious about yourself when you travel with vibrators in your luggage? Maybe the employee should have been reprimanded or reassigned, but I think firing them is a bit much, especially when you consider the costs to the taxpayer of training another person for the position.

Until now, I didn't realize she never filed a complaint. The TSA read her blog and decided to investigate on their own.

I like how the militant feminist "victim" (editor of feministe.us) indignantly threw this thing out to the entire world then played the "i'm just an innocent girl, don't want to hurt anyone, i'm just so vulnerable" card when it came down to brass tacks. She's definitely hittable, and although a feminist, she's one of those feminists that like to fark (Not a Gloria Steinem type). She also seems to be a pretty good writer, judging by her blog.

Just like I said, she threw this thing out to the entire world. You see, tweeting is not innocuous. A more mature woman would have laughed it off and gotten on with her day without taking a picture and posting it on the internet. She claims she never meant for all of this to happen. Actions have consequences, and her hindsight indicates she just feels bad for herself and does not mind all of the publicity. That's truth. And fark your accusations, you short-sighted asshole.

Not like me to take the side of an avowed feminist, but she is a professional writer; she writes about the world around her. What exactly did you expect her to do? I don't blame her. I do think the TSA's response was reactive and extreme. Reprimand the guy sure, but given what he did was fairly innocuous, I think firing him was extreme and over-the-top. But then again, that is typical TSA - bumbling around with misstep after misstep.

Who the hell cares if it was a militant feminist or some leatherqueen or gimp or whatever, (I thought we all knew the ownership of the dildo was not to be implied). This TSA cocksucker needed to be fired slightly more than the rest, and the matter was brought to the attention of the senior cocksuckers and, amazingly, they handled the situation properly. That's what we should care about.

No abuse of power is never ok and it's not ok for someone to look at your private goods male or female and write a note based on it.
