You know who else died doing what they loved?

2011-10-30 12:06:55 AM
That someone should die making a sequel to that dreadful movie is a crime.

Ya know, that IS the idea behind stuntmen. Sure, you try your damnedest not to kill them, but shiat happens.

Pretty much this. It's sad, but there's insurance and the studio will do their best to help the families since it makes for good publicity.

I just watched the first one, thinking it might make fun of itself enough to be worthwhile. Boy, was I wrong. I expected it to be stupid, but it went above and beyond.

2011-10-30 11:06:33 AM
So who will play his stuntman in the casket?

2011-10-30 11:13:39 AM
Never saw the first one. Was it that horrible? Not even Action Jackson fun?

Hey, if it hadn't been for that horse, I wouldn't have spent that year in college.

Um, no. Stuntmen are used so an actor doesn't chip a tooth or tear his rotator-cuff in a scene. If your stuntman dies, you did something seriously wrong.

2011-10-30 11:40:10 AM
today I learned they were making an Expendables 2.

the first one needed more Terry Crews. Dolph Lundgren also seemed to be the only one in on the joke.

2011-10-30 11:44:52 AM
That movie was so many it gave the hair on my chest hair on its chest.

Great cast, incredibly stupid plot, horrible acting, tons of explosions, no actual love story, big guns, mindless fight scenes, and all sorts of carnage for the sake of carnage.

That movie is to masculinity what sandwiches are to femininity.

2011-10-30 12:04:58 PM
I haven't gotten around to seeing the first one, but everyone I know who has seen it loved it. And any one that says its horrible missed the poiint.

Stuntmen are used so that the TALENT doesn't die.

Trashy, mindless flick that doesn't take itself too seriously. I loved it. They need more movies like that.

Sorry it's not Citizen Kane.

Yeah, that and RED made for some good old-school 'watchin.

2011-10-30 01:32:08 PM
If they weren't expendable they wouldn't be a stuntman, would they? Sure they're usually expected no worse than non-permanent injury, but they're there because they're probably gonna get hurt.

One of these days I'm just gonna start tagging "(insert topic here) snobs" in threads like these. Just to see how many people I can cover.

Cerebral Knievel: any one that says its horrible missed the point.

Can't be repeated enough.

Cerebral Knievel: And any one that says its horrible missed the poiint.

It kinda of felt like most of the cast wasn't in on the joke. I get the point of the film, it just wasn't as good as it should've been. The 20 minute gun fight/explosionathon was fun, though.

Expendables, Red and The Losers all get panned by people, but they are just serious fun.

Hell Borgnine made Red, having the old grandfather of the CIA was just solid WIN!

Now the next has THE CHUCK and JCVD, Epic Win!!!

2011-10-30 04:43:28 PM
The only way to make Exp2 better would be to have Jan Michael Vincent as their chopper pilot who makes howling sound effects when he flies...

Do we really need to keep making brainless action movies at this point?

It's not like the audience is smart enough to notice if we recycled a 70's John Cameron Mitchell movie back into the theater and told them it's summer's hot new action flick.

Sometimes you just need a good dumb fun movie, all the cry-baby liberal type looking for a artsy flick are out protesting anyway...

While they complain how the man has them down while they tweet on there iPhone while listening to there iPod and drink there half-whip-skinny-chai-latte and bemoan there liberal arts degree from NYU and contemplate there next shift at McDs ssnce they cant get a real job as promised by there tenured proffesors who never had to work a serious day in there life except to tap that new 18yo co-ed who needed the personal tutoring for her easy-A!qq

That could very well be, or, that they are so dedicated to their characters, they know how to play it dead pan. Y'know, if your job is to be a bad ass action star, you gotta take the job kinda serious. I'm sure every one was in on the joke, they just made sure to play it like they weren't.

Of course, this could be the reason that JCVD wasn't invited in on the first one, as I understand it, the man takes himself a little TOO seriously. and is a bit of a dick about it.

But I don't want to see these guys do a parade of themselves, think of it like a super group rock band, the masters of their crafts collaborating on a common project.

coherent plot? do the critics of the movie understand that one could typically drive a truck through the plot holes of the movies? these are not movies for thinking, One watches these movies to hear the Hero snap off his witty one liners, shoot a bunch of guns that never run out of bullets, blow up a bunch of shiat, rescue the pretty lady and kill the bad guy in the end. That, in a nutshell, is the plot of every action movie ever made, and that's all you need.

and by the way, I frigging LOVED RED! it had a smart premise, and a great delivery by everyone involved. over the top? ya damn right it was! It was a comic book based action movie after all, and what are action movies, if they aren't the cinematic equivalent of a super hero comic book?

When a stuntman dies, is it not traditional to leave their footage in the movie if it's usable?

2011-10-30 09:35:02 PM
There ain't nothing like the life of a Hollywood Stuntman (new window)

From the movie Hooper.

/Not a rick roll.
//Wanted to be a Stuntman
///Watching this movie merely enforced that want.
////Too lazy to copy out the lyrics.
