I used to have a really huge hermit crab who was still nowhere near the size of that thing. He got me once. It was kinda like someone with a pair of needlenose pliers grabbing on and squeezing with everything they've got. Think of it like this: that's all muscle in there and it's attached to the entire inside of that claw, and it's only there to perform one function.

/actually I had two hermit crabs and this one was a prick. The other was unimaginably docile. Personalities like night and day, even though both were undoubtedly wild caught. Think about that: crustaceans have personalities.
