So you're saying liberals don't blindly follow everything another liberal with a microphone says? It's really too bad many consevatives don't seem to have the ability to think for themselves as well.

Krymson Tyde: So you're saying liberals don't blindly follow everything another liberal with a microphone says? It's really too bad many consevatives don't seem to have the ability to think for themselves as well.

It's a matter of efficiency. Rush and Fox News have already figured everything out for them, so why waste time thinking?

2011-10-29 12:24:18 PM
He's been booed worse than that.

2011-10-29 12:26:57 PM
Because when I want to know what people who watch Bill Maher think, I turn to Republican blogs.

2011-10-29 12:42:16 PM
Those weren't "turning on him" boos. Those were half-hearted "that joke was in bad taste and your target wasn't worth the effort" boos. Please. They weren't walking out on him.

2011-10-29 12:43:45 PM
I was saying "boo-urns."

2011-10-29 12:47:27 PM
Liberal media bias?

So that blog gets updated once or twice a decade then.

2011-10-29 12:47:52 PM
Considering the modern conservative/Republican lacks the ability to think for themselves. I'm not surprised that they can't understand why Maher's audience would boo him over that, and often boo him. All conservatives are nothing more then large children, how to act, and what to believe and hate. They are akin to a class of kindergartners, without form or shape until someone informs them of their system of thought. Being unable to think for themselves allows their leaders to steal money from the pockets and destroy their children future without even a fight from the group. It's a wonderful system that I, myself was able use to make several hundred thousand dollars from.

This is bad news...for Dennis Miller

2011-10-29 12:57:41 PM
I guess Jay Leno has been turned on for two decades.

2011-10-29 12:58:21 PM
Bill Maher is an arrogant self-righteous prick.

That being said, one joke bombing does not mean his audience has magically turned on him. Sounds more like the author's wishful thinking.

2011-10-29 12:58:35 PM
b-b-b-but it was only like one or two people booing and because of the the plastic chairs and the concrete floor of the studio and, and the gravitational forces of saturn aligning with titan and mars at that exact moment....it sounded louder than it really was.

/yeah thats the ticket

2011-10-29 12:58:51 PM
I pity the poor water-carrier who has to watch all that material scouring for the least possible thing he can post about. I've got better things to do, like snark on Fark on a lovely Saturday afternoon.

FishyFred: Those weren't "turning on him" boos. Those were half-hearted "that joke was in bad taste and your target wasn't worth the effort" boos. Please. They weren't walking out on him.

Precisely. But hey, conservative blogger ear strain is woven into the mission statement,so....

2011-10-29 01:02:58 PM
I'm sure if it was a right wing talking head telling gay jokes this would be all over Derpy Kos and this thread would have 100 comments calling the entire Republican party vile and disgusting.

2011-10-29 01:06:21 PM
They probably didn't even finish watching the episode. The audience and the panel were much more surprised/upset at Maher's jokes about wanting Ruth Madoff to kill herself and the "Sexy Stephen Hawking" costume.

2011-10-29 01:06:21 PM
Lol watch more than one episode, he gets booed all the time.

2011-10-29 01:07:31 PM
angrygrizzly: Bill Maher is an arrogant self-righteous prick.

Yeah but he's right more often than not. And he gets booed all the time. The audience preppers probably encourage it.

I rather enjoy whenever he goes off on one of his anti-vaccine rants that his guests just STFU until he changes the topic.

2011-10-29 01:12:22 PM
they were funny jokes

2011-10-29 01:14:59 PM
Shouldn't it automatically warrant the "ironic" tab if a Fark headline criticizes someone for making a political joke that's in poor taste.

2011-10-29 01:18:37 PM
Boos are pretty common. It's like a hockey game. Boos don't mean you're "turning" on your team.

Krymson Tyde: So you're saying liberals don't blindly follow everything another liberal with a microphone says?

yup, which is why jon stewart had to let them know its ok to laugh at obama...

No, what is being said is that liberals only play the offended card when a fellow moon-bat is the target of the joke.

Is it lonely up there on your pedestal? I seem to recall the blind sheep mentality on *both* sides of the aisle. For every "Less Gov'ment! Less Taxes! fark the little people!" the republicans spew out, there's an equal amount of "More Gov'ment! Moar Taxes! Green Jorbs! fark the rich!" on the left.

But I appreciate you proving my point about how some can't see the balance of derp on both sides because you've got your head planted firmly up your own ass.

This must signal the end of liberalism. Does Sarah automatically get the Presidency now, or is there a ceremony of some sort?

I remember watching P.J. O'Rouke try to talk him down like Bill was high on Quaaludes.

Or organized religion or hypocrisy in general. I don't agree with everything he says but although I can understand that people think he's an asshole, which he probably is, he's not often wrong.

/sat in on the Dennis Miller Show a long time ago, when he was funny (he really was at one point) and the audience prepper fiercely instructed us not to boo him

Say what you will about the rest of the show and his political/social stances, but his stand up intro is *always* horrible. He knows it, the crowd knows it. He bombs jokes every episode and the audience lets him know it. Nothing to see here.

I'm no fan of him and got sick of him about 2-3 seasons into the show, but he does take it in stride when he bombs.

Is this a serious comment? It's such a stew of generalized vitriol that it's hard to suss out your actual point. You sound mad.

Both sides of the aisle are guilty of paternalism, just in different areas. And on the subject of money, I worked for two major Wall Street firms for fifteen years and in my experience, the more liberal the person, the more clueless about the economy and how to capitalize on it. So, good for you. But most liberals I know are too busy trying to tax "the rich" to fund government giveaways to actually do what you did, which is to educate themselves about the system we have. Maybe you should be a teacher.

True conservatives don't want the government making their investments for them, but most liberals I know do favor a mindless, "the government knows best" approach to finances. The emotional tone of your post suggests that you're a liberal, but a failed one (or a self-loathing conservative) since you seem to have no qualms about capitalizing on the failings of others, when you should have been fighting to right the wrongs that enabled you to make all that money. Sounds like you're biting the hand that fed you, and then claiming the high moral ground. You sound like kind of hypocrite. What's the deal?

While you are correct that both sides have their blind faiths, your side contains the largest, and more profitable population. It's to the point where we have it down to detailed list of words and phrases based on how profitable they are. For example, the use of phrase "big government socialists" in an fundraising email nets about $30,000.

It's not even fair sometimes.

Oh geez, can't a politician tell a joke once in awhile? It's not like he's a professional comedian, he's just running for office. Why are cons so afraid of this strong intelligent man?

slotz: But most liberals I know are too busy trying to tax "the rich" to fund government giveaways to actually do what you did, which is to educate themselves about the system we have

...which is to give bailouts to banks, give tax incentives to outsourcing and leave open enormous tax loopholes for the rich?

I agree that learning and playing by these rules is a good strategy but I disagree that it's a good strategy for running a country.

JerseyTim: I love how Newsbusters covers Bill Maher like he's a serious commentator.

I don't think you quite understand how the "it's our good old American way of life against those sleazy liberals" propaganda works. An arrogant asswipe like Maher, who thinks up the nastiest garbage he can and then trots it out on his for hipsters only show, is worth 100 times his weight in gold to the conservative think tank crowd. Because every time that he or some other marginal celebrity idiot on the fringe of political commentary does this, they trot them out and treat them like they are Walter Cronkite. And if you only get your news from the right wing media, you would figure that he's a progressive liberal spokesman, seeing how often he gets quoted.

He serves the same purpose for the right wing propagandists as Limbaugh and Coulter do for the left--he infuriates them with off the wall outrageous bs. And all of them, Maher, Limbaugh and Coulter, have lowered political discourse into a turd throwing contest. Piss on all of them.

slotz: True conservatives

Ah, the one true conservative! Fighting the long struggle against the ever growing tide of liberals, RINOs, and heathens! I'm with a brother, however since this is America, I make a profit from it. Did you know Club for Growth last year raised $13 million dollars and only gave out $3.25 million? Where do you think that other $9 million went too? It sure as hell wasn't to fighting the good fight, unless you count all that private jet travel. Man that's the only way to fly.
