Uganda also has an epidemic of child sacrifice. I wouldn't expect much in the way of human rights.

So true, I prefer a good Black v. Mexican fight with the Mexi being the underdog, than your typical great white hope story. Those never end well like Jerry Cooney... Cooney, heh.

Christian Bale: Someone should ask them, "ok, you are straight, right? Can you possibly imagine *choosing* to be gay for any reason?" If they say no, then they go against their own argument. If they say yes, then they're practically coming out.

This won't change anyone's mind. Seriously. It won't work. Is it logical? Yes. But one can't reason a person out of a position they didn't reason themselves into, and furthermore, irritating a person is no way to get them on your side. It sounds less like an argument and more like an eighth grade nerd fight, and will get you about the same results.

CrispFlows: wyltoknow: Being gay is a choice. These people are fleeing their homes and families in a desperate attempt to not be horrifically brutalized to death by their own government and society because they don't want to make the choice to be straight. Right?

You do know that your entire argument relies upon the premise that it is a choice and you have not proved the premise yet, therefore the entire argument is invalid. In other words, you just made a definition argument and not proven the definition. (Example: Clowns are evil, Why would anyone want to be a clown voluntarily unless they are evil?)

In order to validate your argument, You would need to prove your premise that it is a choice. I would recommend using any peer-reviewed psychology journal articles that proves this premise.

I think your sarcasm detector exploded in your brain.

While I do agree with you, it would be ...

Oh I give up, I'll try to ignore claims without any backup that follows the claim and deem them as opinions.

/ Because that's how weak the argument becomes.

My opinions are subjective. Sometimes people agree, others disagree. But when I make statements like this, it is based on my experience and observation. So how do I backup a subjective statement with objective proof. I don't, but I still know in my heart that I am right. Fundamentalist thinking is why the people of this world still behave like animals instead of humans.

/oops, there I go with another subjective statement.

Christian Bale: The "gay is a choice" people are seriously weird...so according to them, every man is straight, but some choose to go against their natural inclinations, so they can...be persecuted? be unhappy since they'd really rather be with women? give a big "fark you" to the world?

Someone should ask them, "ok, you are straight, right? Can you possibly imagine *choosing* to be gay for any reason?" If they say no, then they go against their own argument. If they say yes, then they're practically coming out.

The best I have been able to understand it is that these types of Christians MUST believe it is a choice. Because if their God condemns all homosexuals to hell, and it ISN'T a choice, their God is unjust. As long as they can keep convincing themselves that we choose it, then it's our own fault we're gonna burn, not their God's fault for letting us be born gay and then frying us.

2011-10-29 04:22:26 PM

Cyno01: If being gay is a choice and should not be a protected class under the law, why is religion, which is a choice, a protected class?

The simple, mostly correct reason is this: Numbers. Religion, coming into the modern age, has had vast majorities everywhere. Homosexual acceptance was unheard of, mostly because of religious proscription. Now that religion's power is on the wane, people are more accepting of homosexuality. Even among the religious, far fewer take the fire and brimstone bullshiat seriously. You hear them more because we've all got megaphones available to us, but their power is diminishing rapidly.

El Freak: Exception Collection: It doesn't necessarily involve telling "everyone" - just those close enough. And all it takes is a single slip to get busted; look at how many people were thrown out of the military under DADT for doing things in seclusion.

It probably doesn't even take that much. Probably all it takes is some asshat getting pissed off at his neighbor for some stupid reason and then telling the authorities he heard his neighbor likes to suck cock. Of course, it doesn't matter if it's true or not.

And that's exactly what will happen: people will settle old scores by accusing people they don't like of being gay. Similar things happened in France after the liberation when women would accuse those they didn't like of being "collaborators." Moments later, the accused was in the town square getting her head shaved.

Got to wonder how many of the "homosexuality is a choice" people are actually just playing at being straight. It would go a long way to explain why they think sex should only be done in the dark and only for procreation.

Linda Wall: The anti-gay activist who molested an underage girl (new window)

"I've never tried to hide that I was in homosexuality," Wall tells the Associated Press.

Hehe. It's like a club, y'all! You join or you quit. Simples.

"The reaction to this woman's mistake has been despicable," says Jim Brogan at The Post Courier. It was wrong to have had sex with a 12- to 14-year-old girl, but Wall was a confused 21-year-old at the time, and in the 40 years since it happened she's "become a Christian, obviously repented heavily, and is no longer a lesbian." There's no need to slam her as "a child predator who needs psychiatric help."

On the "not all Christians are like that!" subject, how precisely can one not be a bigot when the conception of a perfect deity is one that commands you to execute homosexuals?

The only answer seems to be "we know better than our god," which strikes me as somewhat blasphemous, or the idea that "like, man wrote the Bible, our god is all about love!" Both ideas are utter nonsense and can't be logically supported, even within the framework of the religion itself.

I can't really say as I'm surprised with Uganda doing this as this is the same country I've read numerous articles about being unsafe for people with albinism (they chop them up and use their body parts as good luck charms... Link) and apparently also a proclivity for child torture/sacrifice (Link)

It's difficult to outright label an entire country as evil, but Uganda comes pretty damn close.

Hell with it- Uganda's EVIL... there- I said it!

ghostofreasonpast: Right now, Nigeria is set to be the next country with over a billion people, while they get about two thirds of their food from foreign aid and charitable donations, which in turn have destroyed their domestic agriculture industry (you can't compete with free).

I'm sure it has been pointed out, but you should really have to choke on this, repeatedly.

Nigeria:

Pop. 155, 215, 573 (2010) with a density of 164/ square km (so it isn't even crowded, let alone overpopulated)

Agriculture makes up 70% of the GDP ($377.6 billion), and unemployment is about 5%.

What country were you thinking of?

I saw a documentary about the situation in Uganda last weekend. It was the most awful and disturbing thing I have seen in a long time. They were interviewing "journalists" who out gay people and print their address. This has led to killings and "corrective" rapes. The fact that these people are getting their money from The Family here is just vile.

A third possibility: the bible does not actually condemn homosexuality, and while that's a highly controversial idea, there's some really good arguments supporting it. If nothing else, Christians ignore absolutely everything else that was in Leviticus - they eat shellfish, and don't observe the Sabbath. And that last point was one of the few things that Jesus said you HAD to do. For that matter, Jesus would not have approved at all of the Christian hatred of homosexuals. He would have been disgusted at how much hate in general has been done in his name.
The only scriptures post-Christ that seem to condemn homosexuality came from Paul, and when he said "effeminate men" he wasn't talking about drag queens or camp gays - he was talking about shirking civic duty. In other words, Paul was calling grown men that don't vote "fags".

I would like to know how anyone knows these people are gay in the first place. If they go around telling everyone they are gay in a anti-gay environment then I must questions their sanity.

Hey Mike, this guy is gay, I saw him getting out of a car owned by so and so, and they drove from that place that has sex with the boys. He lives near you, I wouldn't feel safe near him. I wonder if some real people will fix the problem.

So, I'd start packing your things gayboy. The mob will stop by at 7.

(that's pretty much all it takes, who cares if you aren't. the mob would expect a homoboyrapist to deny it, they always do.)

Homosexuality is a Learned Behaviour. The instinct for sex involves thrusting and groping and kissing and so forth. If you get horny at the sight of a naked man, or if you get horny at the sight of a naked woman, it is only because you have been taught to make that association.

Bushmen don't have any more interest in female breasts than they do in elbows. The Western fascination with breasts is not instinctive. Certain deviants find stinky feet to be objects of desire. There is very little 'hard-wiring' involved in sexual attraction. You grope and fondle and kiss with whatever you've been taught to be appropriate.

you seem to think that most Christians hold some anger against homosexuals. The problem with that is that it goes against what Christians believe. "For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God". My drunken ass is just as unworthy of forgiveness as a murderer or homosexual. we all have our vices, all of us are worthy of eternal judgment. I don't judge my fellow man for his vices, because I know my own are just as bad. the key is repentance.
