I wonder if there's any dihydro-monoxide in that.

Seriously, I don't get the point of listing the chemicals without talking about exactly why they are there and how the body processes them. The author probably just did it to make the article more shocking.

FTFA the most egregious may be azodicarbonamide - "a flour-bleaching agent most commonly used in the manufactur[ing] of foamed plastics like gym mats the and soles of shoes."

This is just piss poor reporting. Doesn't tell you anything about the chemical.

dihydrogen-monoxide is a compound used to make leather, rubber, circuit boards, foamed plastics... DHMO is water...

Don't take this as me saying it's perfectly safe, I'm just saying this article isn't as informative as it should be.

2011-10-29 03:17:19 PM
Oh gee... another one of those articles that lambasts common ingredients used for food processing.

I guarantee you the average American will consume half of those chemicals on any given day without going to a McDonald's.

So if there is not any rib meat in there, how can they legally call it a Mcrib sandwich?

McRib is a name. They can put whatever they want into it.

Just like the Whopper contains no wops nor is it marketed to them.

/Part Sicilian so it's okay.

That's where the "Mc" part comes from.

FTFA: "In addition to chemicals like ammonium sulfate and polysorbate 80, the most egregious may be azodicarbonamide - 'a flour-bleaching agent most commonly used in the manufactur[ing] of foamed plastics like gym mats the and soles of shoes.'"

There's very little meat in those gym mats.

So a writer needs to present you with a dictionary listing for each term you don't understand? Real solid logic there.

I especially like it when they list industrial processes that use a certain chemical. Anyone here ever seen what pure acetic acid does to a lab countertop? It'll eat right through it while the fumes burn your eyes. But what would the world be without pickles, salt & vinegar chips, or sweet & sour sauce?

2011-10-29 03:34:08 PM
WAAAAY back when the McRib first came out, in the early 80's, they used fairly good "meat" and they tasted pretty good. A small portion of the population really loved them. Ever since, McDonald's has been trying to capture those fans by bringing the sandwich back, but the new iterations are nowhere near as tasty.

I'm going to go out and pick up 4 homeless guys and take them to McDonalds so the girl in the drive-through doesn't look at me weird when I buy 5 of them for myself.

I don't care about vegetarians as long as it's not because they're against the killing of animals for food.

Either way animals are dying in the food production process.

no one's telling you what to eat. but maybe if you actually knew the shiat you're eating, you wouldn't act so stupid when your arteries clog up and they cart you away to the emergency room where that insurance company has to pay a ton of money to restart your heart and put you on lifetime meds and then hike up the premiums on the rest of us to pay for it. but please, have another pork heart and stomach lining marinated in ascetic acid on me. sounds McLiscious!

There's nothing wrong with offal. It's not some dangerous, foul food that'll kill you, it's parts of an animal that are feared on a cultural level. biatch about chemicals, fine, but to lump offal with chemicals as some kind of danger to your body is ridiculous.

Today I did something deeply shameful just to make my wife happy:

I walked out of the supermarket, right past the lady working an actual bar-b-que who was offering half racks of real barbecued ribs for $5, drove over to the McDonald's and paid $3.69 for a McRib sandwich for her-and even told them to hold the pickles...

I'm so ashamed

This just in: Celery contains chemicals known to science to cause phototoxicity and possibly death. Also, every carrot ever grown or consumed was laced with alcohol.
