Really bad sportsmanship: Punching 2 players in the face during end of game handshake. For some reason we never got invited back to that tournament.

The prosecuting attorney couldn't get in contact with the last kids family.

From a different article

Collins said Friday that her office had talked to parents of all 28 injured football players except one. She said her office left several messages for that player's parents, but never received a return phone call.

OK, he's a dick, send him to juvey until he's 18, yadda yadda. I've got no problem with that.

But at what point on the opposing team's line are you a moron? The first guy shakes his hand, comes away with blood, OK, it's a coincidence. But somewhere around the, I don't know, 10 guy or so you've got to know something is up, don't you? Did not one of these assaulted kids turn around and say "WTF?"

I don't think that is what he meant. There are disturbed people that put fingers INSIDE the urethra.

There's a big difference between punching someone and needle-stick injuries. Both legal and medical.

It's a shame the first guy in line to get his hand pricked had HIV, damn shame.

I could broadcast live proof on the Internets that he is wrong. I don't think I will though, unless people offer me a whole bunch of money.

AnubisMan: It's a shame the first guy in line to get his hand pricked had HIV, damn shame.

I'd be more worried about hepatitis B. HIV isn't particularly virulent, but you can get HepB from a drop of blood smaller than what you can see.

OTOH, you can get vaccinated against HepB. Who knows if any of these kids were.

After the first 5 or so got poked, the other 23 still stayed in line and shook his hand?

How about getting rid of the handshakes after games in all sports.

Hey look at us, we're promoting sportsmanship! Those 2 hours of us playing against each other meant nothing compared to this 1/2 second handshake.

The handshake symbolizes that whatever happened on the field gets left on the field.

Unless you're an asshole, like this kid.

For me, this is another one of those cases where law enforcement and the courts are used when school or league discipline should prevail.

Although, I guess they have to take him to court if they want to force him to pay for the tetanus shots.

I've been trying to get in touch with that 28th commentor, but they won't return my posts.

This reminded me of the team handshake after one of my little league games. Two of the guys on the other side were punching us in the gut as we went by. It was stopped before it got to me, but I don't think I have thought about that since it happened, and I am unsure if anything was ever done to punish those kids.

How dare that 28th kid did not wish to pursue legal action! He'll probably grow up without any desire to take petty revenge!

It's not just petty revenge.

While the treatment cost will no doubt be minor, it might also not be.

If one of those kids had a disease or virus spread by blood, the asshole kid could have spread it to any number of other players.

If my kid ended up getting Hep B because of it, I would want a clear document trail to make sure the other kid and his parents have to pay for the treatment.

Exactly. This kid is 16 and thus is looking at 2 years in juvie (since he's not being tried as an adult). I'd definitely pursue criminal charges against the kid simply to have it documented in case my kid comes down with some blood born illness later. It can take HIV months to show up in some cases. You have the judgement for when medical bills occur and you need to get money of the appropriate insurance company.

The dick move here would likely be filing a civil suit on the side, unless you'd encountered a serious medical problem.

What's the statute of limitations on assault? Could they could try him in 2 years as an adult?

video man: What's the statute of limitations on assault? Could they could try him in 2 years as an adult?

Whoops, I meant at worst 2 years in juvie. Which seems improbable.

Personally I'd like to see him spend this coming summer in juvie and get some community service to keep him busy between now and then.

Doubtful, but in many states a 16-year old can be tried as an adult for certain crimes.
