Wait, they can't raid a drug den operating and selling 24 hours, 7 days a week, with tons of neighbors complaining, until they 'build a case', which 'takes time' ; but they can arrest a single college student with one pot plant based on an 'anonymous tip'?

I was wondering that as well. Considering how many stories end up on Fark of people's houses being trashed by the police after so much less. And they're lucky their dog survived being sicked on a cop.

The thing is, that college kid isn't a juicy target. He's not likely to be connecter to a distribution channel, have guns, or be run by multiple people possibly none of whom is a ringleader.

When you're dealing with a nest of hornets, it's a lot more complicated than swatting a single fly.

And to the cop that DIDN'T kill the pit bull: kudos.

That man should win an award and one cop who DID kill a dog should get a demotion to pay for said award.

During the raid, officers said, they seized numerous prescription pills, a small amount of cocaine and 18 shotgun shells

but no guns? what kind of drug dealers are they?

They were maybe emptying out the blackpowder from the shotgun shells to make another explos-hold on a second, there's a knock at the door.

What's wrong with this story?
They had evidence, a legit warrant, and they didn't kill the dog.
Hmm.

Somehow I had missed that particular legend. So I click on the link, read the "story" and start laughing insanely at the image of a theater audience doing that. But it's early and I've only just started my coffee...

Dorm rooms or housing on college park areas are beholden to different rules than an owned private residence, usually. Think like how high schools could do random inspections of your locker.

Not saying right or wrong, but it usually just is. Lot more lenient in the search and seizure abilities.

2011-10-29 07:11:39 AM
Personally, I would have charged every one of them with attempted murder on a LEO for sending the pit bull out, instead of taking responsibility. When you're caught, you're caught. It's best just to go quietly, and let the lawyers sort it out.

I also agree with the poster above, who said the thing about one merryjewanna plant. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, either, when contrasted with a story like this. However, there is always one easy solution to avoid something like that....never stick your diack in crazy.

doglover: And to the cop that DIDN'T kill the pit bull: kudos.

Cops may be dicks sometimes, but if a large, obviously aggressive animal is charging straight at them with the intent to attack, I can't fault a cop for shooting it. If a pit bull cam straight at me and I had a gun, I would shoot it dead in a heartbeat. If something that can kill you is attacking you, you tend to make it stop trying to kill you rather permanently.

2011-10-29 07:42:46 AM
So this is a story where the cops actually show restraint, do their research, and generally do what they're supposed to be doing anyway? It's sad that this is such a rare occurrence that it's newsworthy.

"During the raid, officers said, they seized numerous prescription pills, a small amount of cocaine and 18 shotgun shells."

Why mention the shotgun shells? They're perfectly legal for anyone to own, can be picked up at almost any sporting goods store. Why not add "...35 DVDs, 14 china place settings, and two bags of grass seed"

Stupid reporters

As the election approaches, incumbent politicians pressure the police to create the illusion of public safety and that lawmakers are doing their jobs. Slows down after the general election.

FTA: "Once inside, police said, one of the residents, Albert Dean, 35, released a pit bull at the team and it clamped down on one of the officer's legs."

3.bp.blogspot.com

FTA: "Officers then arrested the three occupants, Dean, for attempted first-degree assault and drug charges, and Debra Shaw, 27, Jeremy Bratz, 21, his mother Maryann Bratz, 41, and her nephew Stephan "Bam" Bratz, 24, on multiple drug charges."

Apparently some of the "three" had multiple personalities, and these were also arrested.

The scum had a plant that when dried can be smoked or eaten for feelings of relaxation. Say what you want about human rights, people who possess dangerous plants that cause relaxation should be thrown in jail. Key can be trashed, people who grow should rot in jail with violent thugs, and raped daily.

When you consider he could have just bought a fifth of booze for five bucks and rotted his internal organs instead in a perfectly legal and acceptable way, sounds like they even went easy on him. Say what you want fark liberals, marijuana is an exceedingly dangerous plant. I for one welcome these kind of busts, and hope for the incarceration of all the rest of the vile thugs who relax with a plant.

Dear Mr Policeman,

If the dog is used as a weapon and is actively chewing on your leg, it is okay to shoot to kill. That dog needs to be destroyed anyway. Which sucks, and is 100% the owner's fault. It wasn't born viscious.

A fifth of something cheap maybe? Even the grossest of cheap liters here is 8-9 dollars, and that is the sort of stuff I'd rather stay sober than touch.

Ten years ago I represented a 15 year old who shot a thug. The thug had chased my client around one of the projects with a baseball bat for about ten minutes before my client finally pulled out his gun and shot him. During the investigation the police interviewed seven people who called 911 about a "man chasing another person with a bat", and also all the "shots fired" calls. In every instance, when the callers found out who was shot the caller made some comment such as, "good" and "about time he get shot." Turns out the thug had a long history of terrorizing the whole project, and now I had a lot of witnesses that were willing to come forward and testify about being terrorized by him.

Despite being a clear case of self defense, the police charged my client with attempted first degree murder and transferring him to adult court to be tired as an adult. The case was dismissed when the thug was shot and killed during an attempted home invasion, two days before trail, thus robbing me from what promised to be the easiest victory in my legal career.
