Gov. Bill Haslam is warning that state troopers will enforce the Capitol's new curfew again tonight if Occupy Nashville protesters refuse to back down.

I'll never understand why the Tea Party wasn't so committed. Weren't those folks used to hunting in the wilderness and survivalists? They would have known the logistics of feeding, sleeping and bodily waste.

But, noooo. They rode their hover rounds home when the sun went down. Packed up their coolers and lawn chairs and went their way. They could only hack a preplanned, Fox advertised outing to watch Sean Hannity.

Patriots indeed.

Obviously a RINO. The liberal media would've made sure the article pointed it out at least 13 times if he was a true Republican(tm).

Dude, here in Portland, the mayor and one of the city council members warned the Occupy people if they move to other parks, they will be arrested. The Occupy folks thumbed their noses and actually threatened the City. This is the most liberalist liberal libtard city in America.

We're on for a show down tonight. (new window) There should be some good fireworks for tomorrow.

Oh, and btw, Oakland doesn't strike me as a right wing Republican city either.

Funny isn't it? A group protest day in and day out for weeks on end, in multiple cities, and the people who could only be bothered to 'protest' for 6 hours on a Saturday afternoon call them "lazy."

If you have to be homeless (heaven forbid) the US must SUCK for it. There's no proper bathrooms anywhere, no public water spigots, nothing.

I have to say coverage of the OWS protests only made me realize that more. How cities can have no public bathrooms is just crazy by me.

You gotta admit though it's different in rural area vs. urban area.

I go camping regularly (car camping) we take a SUV and park on public land with no facilities AT ALL, we carry water but most places we are free to dig holes to poop in. Places we are forbidden to do that, well, we have a car (because we're well off vacation campers!) and so can poop in a bag and carry it out of the area to dispose of later.

But in a city, either there's public bathrooms every so often (as in civilized places) or else there's not and you gotta pay to use some business bathroom (as in the US) and so... yeah. Being homeless in the US has to suck surely. You can't just dig a hole in a public park, but you sure as hell can ask why there are not public bathrooms (UNLOCKED public bathrooms plz) in the park.

No you don't, otherwise you would be crying about why the media doesn't make more of the Oakland mayors party affiliation. When can you just admit you are a Dem? Quit acting ashamed of it. There is nothing wrong with deciding you are a Dem now. It's pretty obvious you hate Republicans and always defend the Democratic party. There is nothing wrong with changing your mind on things. It's hard to take you seriously as a Libertarian when all you spew is anti-republican crap, and always side with the Big D(and i don't mean Dallas). How was the Rush show today by the way?

Unfortunately, the needs of the extremely poor were destroyed by the semi-poor. Public bathrooms were often used for prostitution, drugs, and graffiti. Their fixtures were destroyed or pipes stolen for scrap. Essentially, they simplye became unusable or unsafe

why do you insist that all of our problems can be solved by adhering to one of two political parties? that's simplistic bordering on insane. I don't want Democrats running the show any more than I want the Republicans in the white house. I want to see 6 different parties in Congress and 40 different parties in every state congressional delegation in every one of the 50 states. I want MORE choices, not less.

the problem right now is that at this very moment I think the GOP is actively dangerous to my personal liberty and financial well being. the Democrats have some wrong ideas, but you know what? they're not cheering the oakland PD for cracking the skull of a two tour Iraqi war vet and saying that the OWS crowd deliberately taunted the cops into shooting down medical assistance with rubber bullets and tear gas. I could probably find common ground for compromise with the Democrats. I cannot say the same with the Republicans.

It was like 8 people in Market Square a couple of weeks ago. I left after one of the women there, while trying to hide under a piece of cardboard while lighting up and saying the whole time 'this is dangerous, I shouldn't be doing this.' I opted against throttling her and left.

I find it amusing that the politicians and their corporate-run media lackeys seek to constantly discredit the protesters by equating them with the homeless. If you live in one of the most affluent countries on the planet, and you lack housing, you should be protesting - protesting government policies which have created insanely high rent; protesting government policies which have create huge unemployment; protesting government housing that keeps the homeless in shelters when it's cheaper to put them up in an apartment because they would rather spend more money so as not to appear to "reward" the homeless; government policies that destroy public housing and replace it with more expensive owner-occupied, mix-income units. Our homelessness problem is a sign we should be protesting, not a way to discredit it.

muck4doo: Anyone suggesting the stupidity of "flat tax" will never have my vote, no matter the party. Does that simplify it a little?

What about the fair tax? It's fair because it jacks up taxes on poor people, then realizes that poor people shouldn't pay taxes so it gives them a prebate! That's a vast reduction in complexity from simply not taxing them to begin with!

2011-10-28 11:24:29 PM
"We were receiving increasing complaints from legislators and from citizens and from Metro Nashville as well. Our job is to protect the safety of folks. Our team at General Services, working with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, said we think the curfew is the best way to protect that.
There have been numerous cases of robbery there. There have been just some other behavior that I don't think people felt were appropriate for a public space. We had an issue on Legislative Plaza that really did create an unsafe and unsanitary condition. We want to be real clear. We're not saying they can't be there. We just set a curfew. We believe in and respect folks' right to protest. ... We also have to balance that with the need to protect safety."

[Citation Needed]

I've only taken a peek at OWS Memphis, so I can't speak on OWS Nashville. That being said, I seriously doubt that the events described by this twunt is at such a dangerous level that peaceful protesters must be forcibly evicted.

Last I checked, the whole purpose of having a police force was to protect, serve, and defend the public without a bias. If what the Gov. is saying is true, then more patrols should be dedicated to the protest site to prevent further wrongdoings. PEACEFULLY, without farking riot gear.

If there are unsanitary conditions, then the city should provide more toilets for the area.

There needn't be a curfew, either. Worse shiat happens in major cities in broad daylight.
