Not just that, but since (if I remember correctly) she's actually writing a significant portion of not only her music but also that of other pop stars, she'll probably be in music for a *long* time. She'll be the Dr. Dre or Jay-Z of Pop.

It took me about a year to realize what was so "special" about Lady Gaga, as I listen to the radio a lot and it all sounded the same to me.

She's not THAT bad. She has some catchy songs. If you don't like her, change the station. Yeesh.

Lady Gaga is clearly an avatar of Eris. I am a Discordian. Therefore I feel obligated to worship her. Except when I don't.

She's an artist. The criticisms add to the controversy surrounding her choices of style. The only thing she could do to damage her survivability as a popular performer would be to overdo it to the point that public would tire of the controversy. I suspect she's still got a few more spins up her sleeve, though.

But you have to admit, it does seem to be effective way.

That's the whole point.

The folks who derp derp on about talent and good music and how "she's just Madonna" and how she can be easily replaced are missing the point.

She knows this, folks. That's why she markets herself like she does. She's already outrun and outlasted most of her contemporaries, and that's the name of the game in pop music. Get as much attention as you can for as long as you can and profit from that attention. Then, when you're smart, use that name recognition in other ways later on, perhaps not on-stage but in the business side of the music biz.

Time honored, smart way to go.

I know you're only just out of adolescence, but there was a time where looks were not requisite to being a musical icon. This isn't new so much as a throwback.

Not really. If you compare her earlier career as a real person and the Lady Gaga persona, she's clearly the pop music version of the Read a Book video's first 30 seconds, right down to the piano.
