Like what the park service wants is at all important.

Funny thing about rights. People have them.

No problem. The police will just break out the dogs and the water hoses. It worked 45 years ago.

Well, they don't, not as many as they used to. That is one of the things OWS is about.

after the actions of the Oakland PD, i'd be surprised if there weren't more people outraged.

If only there were some way to enforce laws on federal property. Damned loopholes.

I'm supportive of the occupiers, as any middle class and falling American should be, but that article was a nearly incomprehensible word salad.

I just accidentally the park. Is that dangerous?

So they slept on the concrete? There's not a lot of space in that memorial for a shantytown.

The park service could get owned if they try to block the protesters. The protesters are within their rights: Link (new window)

Well it's probably not legal. Welcome to Obama's national park.

From an article in the San Diego Union-Tribune about the SDPD busting up the protests there:

Police Lt. Andra Brown said people were taken into custody for a variety of charges, including illegal lodging, encroachment and curfew violations.

Most of the arrests were for obstruction and resisting arrest, Brown said.

Think about that.

If only we lived in a country that had freedom of assembly.

Instead we get freedom of application for assembly followed up with freedom of unjustified denial.

I hate this country.

100% of the sheeple say that we should have right of assembly, and freedom of speech, but only when they agree with them.

Where was the police/media/military outrage when the Tea Party tards were marching in the streets with armed weapons?

With the sound of police helicopters overhead, Occupy Atlanta members headed to the Martin Luther King, Jr. historic site, which is federal property.

They spent the night at the foot of a Gandhi statue.

There's something about the juxtaposition of the Police helicopters and peaceful protesters sleeping at Gandhi's feet that's illuminating.

2011-10-28 01:38:47 PM
Trying to kick out the protesters in Oakland boosted the entire OWS movement nationwide.

The powers-that-be might want to go back to the "Ignore Them" stage because they won't like what happens after the "Fight Them" stage.

The Occupy Atlanta crowd had some clown walking around with a loaded AK-47. Whoever that is, they aren't helping.

FWIW, most of the houses along Auburn Avenue near the MLK birth home are owned by the feds and leased out to the people that live there.

/If you want real change the OWS and Tea Party movements need to join together and work on the 80% of the ideas you both agree on. Together you are much stronger than as separates.

Pretty sure he has acknowledged it. What I don't want to see is any Dems in office or running for office come out in public support for OWS, because the first time one of those protesters (or an infiltrator) does something really stupid and violent, the GOP will hang it around those Dem politicians' necks. They're all just waiting for someone claiming to be associated with OWS to set off a pipe bomb or assault a group of police officers.

Much like how Oakland PD only started firing tear gas once a protestor threw a tear gas canister back at the police.

pippi longstocking: Where was the police/media/military outrage when the Tea Party tards were marching in the streets with armed weapons?

The truth of the matter is that the geriatrics and the hover-round squads were on a very tight leash and weren't really a threat to anyone or anything other than the local Walmarts. None of their 'demands' had any coherent semblance of relating to reality, nor did it have any real push for action behind them.

PanicMan: I would like to hear Obama say something about OWS. Anything really. Just acknowlege it.

He did. He thought the dirty college students would stop biatching about student loans (because that's all they are, he believes) if he put forward some "no chance in hell of passing" student loan legislation.

And nothing else.

Obama was one of the first politicians to support it. The Republicans began to kinda-sorta support it after first slamming it (all while still slamming it on FOX).

The Tea Party's only demands are that an even further-right corporate GOP get put in charge that would imprison 0bongo for faking his birth certificate and piss off the libs while painting the white house with a brighter shade.

Here's the problem: Democrats bad, Republicans far worse.
Both are corporate whores but one group is far swifter when it comes to farking over the US populous to please their pork-funders. This puts OWS in a diametrically opposed position to the Republican ConservativesTea Party.

Why would the real grassroots OWS movement want the astro-turf TP anywhere near them? For that matter, why would the corporate dupe TP want the OWSers?

There's a funny 'belief' that the current Tea Party is composed of any sizable amount of people actually concerned with the economy and the corporate and sociopolitical factors that have led it to flounder. Rather than it being almost entirely made up out of people mad at a brown personDemocrat being in the White House.

And look how that turned out!

Hey, what's up with Atlanta hating homeless people? I was downtown there this summer for TechEd and you couldn't walk a block without seeing some sign telling you not to give panhandlers money or asking you to drop your change in a lock-box that would go to some program.

I get the idea and don't necessarily think it's a bad thing, but judging from the demeanor of some of the locals walking the area, the cops must be brutally efficient in keeping them out of downtown at least.

a "chemical bomb" is NOT a "pipe bomb".

A Pipe Bomb is explosives sometimes along with things like nails (for extra shrapnel) built into a pipe. it can maim or kill easily.

a "chemical bomb" like the one used on that camp was most likely a couple of household chemicals mixed together (assuming the witness's are correct) to react to one another in an inclosed container creating a rapid release of gas causing it to explode making mostly a loud noise.
For all we know it could have been dry ice pellets in an empty 2 liter bottle with a small amount of water.

IF it had been an actual pipe bomb, most likely one or more protesters would be missing body parts or worse.

anyways... came here to say :

Kwanza Hall. Really...someone named their kid Kwanza Hall? I'm pissed, I was all set to name my next child "Christmas Amphitheater"... now thats all shot to hell, and I guess I can scrap "Hanukkah Auditorium" as well.... damn it!

Their guns had guns, and those guns were made out of smaller guns that fired bullets made of guns.
