Hey, they would have done the same thing if it was a person.

2011-10-28 10:37:52 AM
So what happened to the deer?

She should have had the deer crossing sign moved.

WTF did she think they were going to do, drive it to the vet and get a cast put on?

It's a deer.

She is just mad that they did not hook her up with some venison.

I mean, C'mon, you can break her off a piece since she was the one who called them up.

Large rats with hooves. Like the homeless, they don't deserve healthcare.

Wasn't said. But usually, it's donated to a place where it will be well received as a donation. Most places where food is normally donation based, something other than box or canned protein is appreciated.

Just ask the next homeless person you see.

this.

I told a cop about a wounded deer one time. I was glad that he killed it. The critter had been sitting in the same place in the ditch for three days just looking at the cars go by. Put it out of its misery. I would've done it myself, but law enforcement tends to frown on citizens shooting deer on the side of the interstate in town. I hope he did eat it. Waste of good meat otherwise.

What the hell did the woman think was going to happen? There is a large animal rescue facility somewhat close to me (Popcorn Park Zoo (new window)) but to let an animal suffer w/a broken leg for the few hours it'd probably take for them to get there would be just cruel. Better to put the poor thing out of its misery. And, once that's done, ask for a few steaks.

My dad would like to have that problem. Hunting has been sparse this year.

It's not like they started field dressing it in her driveway. They couldn't catch it, so they killed it.

Isn't it deer hunting season anyway?

And this is probably what the GA DNR did with the deer. Either that or they are having a BBQ this weekend. ;) I know that in GA, no one is going to allow perfectly good venison go to waste.

If the deer was sick or injured enough to stand alongside the road for 3 days, I sure as hell wouldn't eat it. If he had been hit by a car and then shot soon afterwards, sure. I'm guessing after that amount of time with whatever was wrong with him, he wouldn't have been too tasty.

Well, it turned out a lot better than the lady that called the cops because there was a snake in her tree. The cops shot the snake. And killed a 5 year old fishing with his grandpa out on the lake behind the tree.

That deer probably got a broken leg from an accident with a vehicle. Kill it and every other deer on sight, they serve no purpose other than be a food source for predators. And they are gone now.

Good on you. I haven't hunted in a while, but back in the day, whatever I couldn't personally eat, was donated to the local Baptist church which ran a soup kitchen for the displaced and poor.

The deer was laying with it's head up in the air. My impression was that the deer had one or more broken limbs. If that was the case then it was likely that the internal organs were intact and the torso meat would have been good to eat.

You occasionally see people doing stupid things. Like NYC spending 60k to capture, sedate, and release a coyote that was in Central Park.

(coyotes are shoot on sight typically nation wide, still a bounty for killing them in some states)

We've got 8-12 head that live on or near our street. See them all the time, but since it's a nice 'burb we're not allowed to shoot them.

That and my wife would kill me if I did that when we can buy normal food.

I'm assuming she thought animal control services would be sent to assess the animal's condition before putting it down, not Timmy Bucktooth and Billy Bob in and the General Lee who wanted to have a good ol' time.

Pretty much anything tastes good if you go long enough without food..... I haven't been in that situation. But the old saying "but for the grace of god, go I" has meaning in this situation. Being an agnostic, I still think this is relevant. I'd probably go to the nearest nice church if I was homeless and hungry.

/legal to hunt just about anything year round in Texas and legal to shoot in the Austin city limits.

Cop answer to every call. "Shoot it"

I guess gun-play in neighborhoods isn't dangerous at all.

// Gun owner but shooting next to homes when it isn't a self defense emergency is farking idiotic.

There are actually places (at least in Texas) that will take fresh skinned/cleaned animals and process them themselves and distribute them to the homeless.

The group of guys I hunt with usually kills about 10-15 deer every fall (there are 8 of us). We keep two or three. The rest are donated to Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger. We just drop them off at a participating processor, and they package the meat and give it to local food banks and homeless shelters. It feels good knowing the meat is going to people who need it a lot more than we do. Plus my truck looks pretty badass with the bed stacked full of dead animals.

1/10

You're not even trying.

However, if you really think that should have been done, for a deer, I question your sanity.

It depends. 3 days is more than enough time for gangrene to set in. I've shot gangrenous deer before - it's very unpleasant. Even assuming there is no overriding infection, an animal that has been constantly stressed for 3 days is going to be very tough and taste like crap. Sure, it would work if you were desperate (again, assuming no blood infection), but it's not something you would really want to eat.
