Maybe the Richmond PD wants to try out their riot gear and so is giving incentives.

So you think the OWS protestors should be armed?

No. My point was that I think the police response to the unarmed protesters has been disproportionate.

Let's see... the former has a lengthy history of making overt threats of violence and mayhem, while the other is best known for, uh, just protesting.

/sounds like the teabaggers should just accept the offer and do their cray-cray thing

Tea party group says city favors Occupy Richmond protesters

Don't worry, assholes, it balances out, because the entire 'liberal media' favors you over them.

Awkward. This could potentially lead to costly, vexatious litigation. My favorite kind.

It's like you're a lawyer of some kind or something.

Also, the VA Tea Party paid to rent the venues. They asked for permission from the city first and paid for that permission beforehand. Occupy Richmond didn't, and that's why they're not paying fees.

2011-10-28 11:45:28 AM
It's majority rule. A majority of Americans agree with OWS, while less then 20% agree with the Tea Party. Sucks to be in the minority doesn't, b*tches.

It's only 10 grand we're talking about. The city will probably just pay the baggers back.

Why would they even think about going to court over this, esquire?

HAHAHA oh man... I ~bombed~ like a motherf*cker. Flames. No one even remotely got the joke but that was totally my fault.

That one kid was Sir Aspies The Ultrafocused, though - I had fun riling him up.

Are you the same handle over there? I have yet to go with another try (different handle, of course *snert*) and am always curious to know who the Farkers are.

This is a comment that was posted in the Boston thread (similar situation):

Pocket Ninja: I wonder if it might have something to do with one protest being a professionally organized astroturf gathering funded by corporate dollars and the other being a spontaneous groundswell of the masses.

I think the comment has some bearing in this situation as well.

I think it has more to do with the fact that the VA Tea Party paid for permission beforehand to rent the park, whereas the Occupy Richmond movement is occupying the park and doesn't care about getting permission from Richmond.

I really don't get that choice of picture for the Tea Party side. The whole "let's choose a picture with some people calmly sitting on a park bench rather than angry people with revolutionary signs" mindset boggles. It boggles the mind I tell ya!

On the one hand yes, the occpuy folks are probably camping illegally here. It's a matter of Richmond getting off their ass and enforcing their vagrancy laws. There's nothing in this article to explain why they aren't.

On the other hand, asking to be repaid your permit fees? WTF Tea Party? Why can't you just be right instead of pushing it over into craziness?

TFA: "The tea party keeps being compared to the occupiers. Well, in the way we're treated, there's no comparison. It's like a slap in the face," said Richmond Tea Party spokeswoman Colleen Owens.

It's funny she should mention being hit in the face with things.

The RKBA doesn't become invalid just because I disagree with their position, any more than the First Amendment does.

Yet you'll find a LOT of phony conservatives claiming otherwise.

yeah, charging some to exercise their freedom to assemble while not charging others balances things out when it happens in reverse somewhere else in the country.

Maybe, but it's kinda stupid to ask for/pay for permission to protest in an ostensibly free country.

I didn't even know it happened in Dallas. I also don't know what Dallas' policy towards other groups was. If there was a discrepancy in treatment then it is outrageous. I also fail to see how unequal treatment under the law in Dallas excuses unequal treatment under the law anywhere else.
