so, there's a whole other front to deal with.

Fair enough? Well no, because Tinson's play was to have been a recreation of the Castle's rich history, which included a prominent role in the defence of England's coastline during the Second World War.

Ummm, I'm no warfare expert, but how much defense could a 16th-century castle have provided in WW2? I mean, they aren't using archers and spearmen.

No YOU'RE a Towel: I mean, they aren't using archers and spearmen.

Are we playing Civ III?

Total War. But my point still stands.

ManateeGag: so, there's a whole other front to deal with.

Perhaps if he set it in Nanking, or Manchuria he could avoid all of that controversy.

/May something about a lovely stroll on Bataan?

Well, considering that half the war was in the Pacific - far from Nazis, Jews, and Poles - it shouldn't be too hard.

Well, except for a brief appearance by some visiting Reich officers, the Captain America movie became damn near 100% Nazi free.

My wife did a production of Cabaret at UCSC, and one day Tom Lehrer (yes, that one) who was helping out with the production (why I don't know) and he brought in some stuff for costumes, including Nazi armbands for the Nazis.

However the higher ups freaked the shiat out and refused to let "symbols of hate" on stage.

/I wonder what Isherwood would have thought.

The old TV show "TALES OF THE GOLD MONKEY" was set in the pre WWII Pacific,
but Donald Bellisario was expressly forbidden from using the Japanese as villains,
and instead used the Nazis.

If his goal was to make a play about the role of a certain castle in the war, but he can't mention the events of the war, that kind of handicaps his ability to be authentic. I see how this is bad.

However, if you were writing a WW2 play that wasn't so topical, it would be possible to avoid mentioning those things.

I haven't done any research into this specific castle, but a castle in Cornwall could've been a radar station or radio communication station for the convoys coming over from the US. It might also have served as a training ground, a rehab center for the wounded, or an intelligence center.

The Japanese beat the Italians after they invaded Russia to retrieve the Holy Grail. The French were defeated soundly by the Dutch at Pearl Necklace Harbor. England went full retard. The End.

That headline reminds me of an assignment in 8th grade English class. While reading the Diary of Anne Frank, our teacher assigned us topics to write a 3 page essay about. She gave me topic of "World War II". I condensed the entire war down to 5 pages and was given an almost failing grade with the comment "not enough detail" written on the front page.

/Still bitter about that.

Nobody said it had to be a "serious" play.

Since he has to skip the "other" main characters, maybe he could focus on the goofiness of the remaining heroes?

Comedy skits are ever bit as fun as dramas.

I've been to Pendennis a couple of times. Down towards the sea from the main walls are a couple of bunkers with large artillery pieces in them, and it's well situated to cover the harbour in case of a naval landing.

The harbour in question being Carrick Roads, one of the best deep water anchorages on the south coast.

Why not? Quentin Tarantino made a WWII movie without using any references to actual history; anything's possible.

Castles were used a lot in WWII for fortification. One that stands out that I have visted is the Brest Fortress in Belarus. The museum is awesome.

I was thinking something gay... or is that Gallic? I get those two confused at times. Anywho, I was thinking something to do with the boys on the line, their shared fears and how they dealt with them :)
