I find it amusing that Americans think their Liberal party is socialist, while the rest of the world's right-wing parties are still father left than the democrats.

Canada used to be this way, but Pedosmile McSweatervest is doing his best to follow America's example and drag us down to the lowest common denominator.

How many Muslim folks are there living in this small town in Texas?

And Socialists? - Giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he is accurately referring proponents of the economic theory that the population collectively owns and controls the means of production and shares in the resulting wealth, and that he isn't a blithering idiot who thinks that anything in mainstream American politics remotely resembles socialism, I'd wager he doesn't come across them very often.

Actually he looks like one of the actors in that new annoying DirectTv ad:

Actually, the ad is for Dish Network. Apparently it is not working for you on a "brand awareness" level.

As long as it's been brought up, can anyone explain that ad to me? Is there some significance to the huge hats and mustaches?

I haven't spent a great deal of energy on parsing the meaning of the ad (other than trying to figure out what the cowboys say at the end. "Hol-didly," according to one website). That said, it seems to me the metaphor is 'bigger is better.'

FTFA, I guess the Texas Department of Public Safety cares:

After hearing of Keller's ad, The Texas Department of Public Safety released the following statement:
"The Texas Department of Public Safety certifies individuals to teach coursework and provide training required to be taken by individuals seeking to qualify for a Texas concealed handgun license. Certified instructors are required to comply with all applicable state and federal statutes. Conduct by an instructor that denied service to individuals on the basis of race, ethnicity or religion would place that instructor's certification by the Department at risk of suspension or revocation. The Department became aware of the statements in question yesterday and has begun an investigation into the matter. The Department will take appropriate administrative action based on the findings from the investigation."

Certified by the state, which has to abide by both state and federal laws. This means that he is not allowed to refuse service based on religion or ethnicity, unless he wants to lose his license, which he seems to say he's willing to do. He can still refuse service based on political leanings though since that's not federally protected. (not sure about the state level though)

You know, the primary problem with using this picture as an example to debunk the "private business, free country, ad nauseam" argument is that in the case of lunch counter segregation (and in most instances such as this); technically under Plessy v. Ferguson it was LEGAL. Jim Crow laws in essence was the government telling private business how to conduct their operations, and provided actual legal ramifications for violating the statues.

But I guess it's easier to just post a picture, and blame business for the ailes of society. You know, instaed of doing a little research and being all historical and all that.

I predict that he will lose his teaching licence after being found to have violated civil rights law then blame "the libruls" instead of his own stupidity and bigotry for ruining his business.

I will eagerly await the followup to this story.

I'm not a Democrat, but I still don't really understand what Obama's done to inspire such hatred.

He's been strong on defense. Captured and killed bin Laden. He's getting our troops out of Iraq. Has not closed Gitmo.

Other than maybe two things: Obamacare and repealing DADT, he's been mostly the same as Bush..whom the Right loved. Other than Obamacare, he really hasn't done anything remotely "socialist".

A lot of people on the Right or in the Tea Party say it's not racism. So, what is it then? That he has a foreign sounding name? That he used to live in Indonesia?

Those of us who were insanely mad about G. W. Bush at least had specific reasons to dislike what he did. Namely, the invasion of Iraq. The torturing. The USA PATRIOT Act. Abuse of executive power.

People are going nutty over Obama's 'invasion' of Libya but the same people would have fully supported it if Bush had done it.

I'm sure some of it is racism but I honestly don't think all of it is.
Maybe it's xenophobia? Despite being born and (mostly) raised in America, maybe he's perceived as foreign due to his last name or having lived briefly in Indonesia? Some people still think of him as a Muslim, despite his insistence that he's a Christian.

I don't know but I don't think it's purely a racist thing.

If they revoke his license, you can expect him to scream about how he's being oppressed by the government. He, of course, has no problem using the program wholly created by government to make money.

That has been a bit of a head-scratcher for me too. The right paints him as this fringe liberal when nothing could be further from the truth, to me he seems to be very centrist, something leaning irritatingly to the right for my taste.

Yeah, but that was on a military base, was it not? He was still raised in American culture. But that Obama fella went to Indonesia which is full of Muslims and studied in a Muslim madrassa. Which must automatically make him a terrorist.

Just like anyone who goes to a private Christian school automatically becomes a person who shoots abortion doctors.
