The suburbs are considered part of toronto. Toronto is a "megacity", composing the core, dense, urban city of Toronto, AND all the suburb communities that blossomed just outside the core, and then eventually grew up to be side-by-side with the city. In a nutshell, Ford won because voters from the burbs don't give a shiat about public transit (it sucks for them) and were downright pissed off at a new "car tax" the city put in to help pay the bills.

The best part is he hasn't uttered the words "legal action", and this is one of those odious reverse-onus domains. There is no way he'd want this to reach a stage where the 911 transcript or recording could be subpoenaed. It's possible he hasn't spoken with a lawyer yet, but this guy has a short temper, a tendency to exaggerate, and little tolerance for being mocked; if any of the CBC's aims could be definitively refuted, that call recording would already be in the Toronto Sun's possession. The fact that several of the claims in his Facebook statement are directly contradicted by the professionally-shot video is just a cherry on the sundae.

Because the inner suburbs of the City of Toronto have more voters than the traditional city core, called "Toronto". The whole city plus the first tier of suburbs is called the "GTA" (Greater Toronto Area) and is now amalgamated on a governmental level, as if the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens were just known only as "New York" (which they are to outsiders).

The voting pattern for Ford was strictly from the split-back, minivan areas. Urban hipsters, the rich and condo-dwellers? Not so much.



I live in Ward 19 and am not amused. We heard yesterday that Ford is taking garbage pickup private with a company that bid 33% less than all the others.

Twice. He called 911 twice. Apparently, ten minutes' response for a call about "harassers" who'd already left without leaving a bruise or a threat is unacceptable and worthy of making a further, profane call.

I once called Toronto police about an active domestic assault taking place on the floor above me, and the police arrived in about 10 minutes, after the victim and the abuser had already left several minutes apart. Basically, if no one's bleeding all over the place or bullets aren't flying, the police won't floor it. They'll hurry, they just won't re-enact a movie car chase sequence. Geez, a kid once got shot on a busy spring evening outside a building in a low-rent nighbourhood I lived in for a while, and it still took several minutes for the police to respond. The 911 call has to be made, dispatch has to put the call out, someone has to decide to respond, it takes time to drive to the location if the nearest cruiser is some distance away... honestly, what did Rob Farking Ford expect, the cops to jump in at the end of his driveway BSG-style?

I guess that's a matter of opinion. We have good jobs here, only 1 hour to world class skiing and mountain biking, and you only have to abandon the city for 1 week a year to escape Stampede! I wouldn't call Calgary heaven, but I'm not sure how much acid you would need to call Toronto that, either.

I don't think it's right that they ambushed him outside his home.
I don't think it's right that he was abusive to the 911 operator (if he was, which is still unproven).
I don't think it's right that he should apologize for using the (gasp) "f-word" (which he did admit to).
I don't think it's right that this whole non-event has taken up so much of the news cycle for the past two days.

But I really don't think it's right for a city that elected a slovenly ill-mannered thug as mayor to continually act so surprised every time he behaves uncouthly. It wasn't exactly a big secret.

Its interesting to see how stark the break was, A similar thing happened in my "City" (its Kawartha Lakes, think fenelon falls, bobcaygeon) The more densly populated part went for the pro business candidate, The more rural part went for the incumbent.
