I work way too hard on the exercise and eating right, and it is starting to making me resentful. I was leaving Costco, and a robust looking couple were standing by their car shoving Costco pizza in their mouths. I am not even sure that they were chewing.

I felt a really irrational anger...

While it's definitely easier for certain people to lose weight and not eat (ignore or have a lesser hunger), you still can't get fat on genetics alone.

You should work on that.

Maybe they both know that they have terminal cancer and they'll be dead in 3 months anyway and really, really like Costco pizza.

/if I remember correctly from my meat-eating days, Costco hot dogs are actually pretty good

One of the scariest things I ever did when looking up long term weight loss (anyone can lose in the short term, hello starvation) was read the wiki article on The Biggest Loser, USA edition.

Just because your hormones are being bastards, doesn't mean that you have to lose to them.

By all rights, I should be one of these people. Most of my family is fat. My father, last time I saw him, was well over 200 lbs, and my sister (who's 8 years old) weighs a bit over 100 lbs.- and she's not tall for her age.

I, at one point, weighed close to 200 lbs. Now, I generally hover between 150 and 155, and I've been in this weight range for just about three years.

It helps to outsmart yourself. If you're going to be in a particular location for a large chunk of your week, don't keep any garbage there. In my apartment, i keep only fruits, nuts, vegetables, diet soda and protein powder. When I worked in an office, I brought and stored exactly what I needed to eat for that week.

That way, when the eating compulsion strikes (and it will), you won't have anything handy to snack on.

Also, remember the "calories out" part of the equation. For me, the gym doesn't really work. Pick up a sport and play it a couple times a week. You don't have to be any good at it, you just need to get moving. Picking up a running habit can help, too.

That was my second thought. ((First thought was "I wonder if it works in reverse too and some eating disorders aren't strictly about body image."))

But either way if hormones make someone a raging banshee to be around, that's not really acceptable as an excuse. We can all take actions to adjust for our imperfect biology.
