The latest shocking incident has sparked new calls for action to combat the growing menace of roaming foxes.

Reverse the ban on fox hunting.

Where I live coyotes have people freaked out.

Since foxes are members of the Canidae family (domestic dogs, wolves, foxes, jackals & coyotes), they're also potential carriers of rabies. Shouldn't the fox have been captured & quarantined instead of releasing it?

I could be completely off base, but I believe rabies has been eliminated or at least nearly unheard of in the UK.

Foxes? Really? Someone needs to introduce a grizzly mating pair into England.

2011-10-27 09:58:46 PM
The fact that this has happened twice in this house hold makes me wonder. Why wer the children far enough out of ear shot that they couldn't hear them? Why are the doors open and not closed? There are no many questions and they all lead back to the parents.

Why did the author of that article make a point of telling us how much one of the victim's house cost?

2011-10-27 09:59:10 PM
weird. i used to go out in the woods and mess with the coyotes in the dark. they just hate it when you get between them and their dens. and that was really stupid too.

but foxes? they see you and run. except the babies who look at you like you're an idiot as you stand there going 'awwwww....'

Foxes? attacking people? WHAT? were you poking it with a sharp stick or something? Ive never heard of a healthy fox attacking anyone usually run off before anyone gets near close enough either they are waaay overpopulated in that area or they are all rabid cuz seriously wtf. here its bears, snakes, and coyotes that people are more worried about.

And living in coyote country we never had any problems with them. They might have worried our neighbors cows but coyotes never came near our place.

I'm... not sure what you people are alleging. That she bit her own son's ear after robbing herself?

Foxes are only a serious threat to babies and children. The only reasonable way to combat this threat without harming any innocent woodland creatures is to stop having babies or children. If you already have had babies or children, please remove them from the premises and dispose of them properly. To ensure no foxes are harmed, they should be either euthanised or bound hand and foot before disposal.

I'll leave mine outside for the foxes to take care of.

Britain used to have fox hunting to take care of these vermin...

But then it was outlawed by the government, thanks to the city dwellers who thought it was cruel.

2011-10-27 10:19:22 PM
I had to check that this wasn't in my area. Gotdammed foxes are out of control this year. They're everywhere. Bold as brass, strolling down the street midday. We've had to chase them off of the playgrounds and athletic fields all season. One fat farker got into my chickens - snatched one from my driveway, mid day, while my neighbors were outside watching. The farkers are fearless. I shot that one in the ass, but it was only an air gun, so the miserable fark lived to steal another day. (I would have enjoyed blowing the farker into next week, but alas, he was in a residential area)

Run away? Fark no. They laugh at us mere humans.

They look healthy, though. And there have been no reports of rabies recently, so there's that.

Treize26: I'm... not sure what you people are alleging. That she bit her own son's ear after robbing herself?

I'm alleging that there was a story about someone whose children were attacked by foxes, and it received a lot of attention.
I'm alleging that someone seeking attention might capitalize on that story with a similar story.
I'm stating as a fact that foxes don't sneak into houses - especially after burglars are done looting the place - and attack children. They just don't.

Last I heard the U.K. has no rabies.
It's why there was a 6 month quarantine for pets entering the U.K. Also some opposed the Chunnel fearing rabid animals could use it as a corridor for entry into the country.

Foxes are pretty bold if they live in an area where they aren't actively hunted by humans. I don't live in the UK myself, but on this side of the pond I've walked down the street and have had foxes give not a care in the world that I was there. I could easily see them targeting and eating smaller humans.

Just so you're aware, the story that received a lot of attention (which I'm going to assume is the story that this story just morphs into halfway down the page) occurred inside the home as well.

double ought buck shot might be a little much. You'd have to clean up what was left of the fox with a shovel. Some 6 shot would probably kill it without scattering fox entrails over half the house.

Just about anything with 'gun' in it's name would help. Except hot glue gun.
