Now for those of you (like us) who aren't sure about what Mroz did, here's the definition of a Lutz jump, courtesy of U.S. Figure Skating:

yes npr news, i'm sure you have no idea what a lutz is.

Happened back in September. So it takes them that long to confirm that he spun around 4 times in mid-air. On film. WIth an audience. That's some nice detective work there, Lou.

Not saying it isn't quite a feat, but shouldn't that be something that could be confirmed in, oh about a half hour or so?

As an aside, I don't get the fascination with figure skating. Sure, it's graceful, but the fawning over people who can spin in the air the highest number of times or spin the fastest on the ice doesn't make any sense to me. Most people take he announcer's word for it anyway, because they certainly can't count the spins. They could go four or five times and it wouldn't look that much different from a triple.

You're a straight guy. Don't worry, it's normal.

Figure skating is not a sport, it is an athletic competition.

/Anything where the winner is decided only by supposedly objective judges is not a sport.
//Still, damn impressive job by that guy

seems like he just did it for the lulz

I can appreciate this from the standpoint of "guy does thing no one else has done" but that's about it.

Lutz?

I love the lutz. There's something about the counter-rotation that makes it a spectacular jump if done properly. The salchow is almost as awesome, but the lutz, with that big build-up (especially if it's Brian Boitano coming out of a rink-wide spread eagle and straight into a 'Tano lutz) is sheer artistry.

Kudos to quad-lutz guy. Learn the artistry side and you'll be famous.

Meh. A triple Lindy is still harder.

The salchow looks great because it is so fluid, but the lutz is a much more difficult jump. There's a lot of momentum working in one's favour in the salchow. The lutz requires a motion that is, at the time, really counter-intuitive. Mad respect to this guy for landing a quad.

And if you need me, just think "Johnny Wishbone" and I come running. Lutz and Biddle, it's like Kibbles n' Bits, but different.
