Caldwell is still awful and is part of the problem, not the solution.

Now there is word that Peyton is going to block the Colts from drafting Luck should they win the Suck For Luck sweepstakes. Gee, a Manning throwing his weight around at the assumed #1 pick. Shocking.

I blame Dungy. This is his mess, Caldwell is simply wading in it up.

they had more injuries last year/ with all the receivers, bob sanders (as always), bullit, linebackers, addai, cornerbacks.

To be fair, trading for the house and then drafting Kellen Moore might be a better idea.

No there isn't. That came from Phil Simms, who is an idiot and should be thrown into a volcano.

Interesting exchange in the video between Simms and Schlereth. I think Schlereth misses the point. No, Manning is not worried about losing his job to Andrew Luck. But he would be legitimately concerned about what a Luck pick says about the direction of the team. Manning wants to come back and have weapons around him to win in 2012 and whatever is left of his career, starting with a high-level player they draft with the #1 pick. Drafting Luck means they're spending the pick on someone who won't help them on the field one bit as long as Manning is there -- which means that inevitably they will have to start the rebuild.

If Manning can even play again...and they do get the #1 pick and draft Luck there is no way that the divorce between the Colts/Manning is clean. Manning will look good in Purple in 2 years.

Does this mean that PAYTON FANNING will become a fad or something?

He's contracted for 5. And the other thing, Colts didn't just lose their quarterback, they lost their best offensive coach in Manning as well.

Well he is in the booth upstairs calling plays. So he's not exactly gone.

Maybe they should fire Caldwell and just make Manning the coach.

Are player-coaches allowed in the NFL?

It's not just injuries, which do play part. It's also the shiatty secondary, chock full of young, unproven, and largely over-their-head players, an inability to modify the scheme when necessary, and an inability to get a decent pass rush from any not named Freeney/Mathis, who can be neutralized with screens, draws, and double teams (triple if you're Freeney). I wanted to kick my shiatty TV when I saw Coyer dial up a play call (goal and short/mid) that called for the corners to give an 8 - 10 yard cushion. Drew Brees, being a QB above the level of a 5th grader, adjusted the play call to a slant. Easiest TD in a game that featured 8 of them.

The offense has been better than expected, but the inability to convert third downs and sustain drives make a mediocre-to-bad defense look way, way worse because of all the time spend on the field. There have been three games this year where the Colt's opponents have 2:1 TOP advantage.

...Peyton has to remember who the guy who owns the team is. Jim Irsay moved a team in the middle of the night. Do you not think he'll just kick you to the curb if you get all uppity and tell him and his GM who they can and cannot pick in the draft?

/And he better have learned his lesson from John Elway...

Robert Irsay was the one who moved the Colts and he won't be able to move them again since he's dead.

The Indiana state legislature isn't going to allow Indy to seize the Colts via eminent domain either.

As others have said on here, the defense sucks because they are built to play with a lead. It's assumed that Peyton Manning will lead the offense on long, clock-eating drives, thus forcing the other offense to do the same. So the Colts defense is smaller, lighter, faster - good for pass rushing and pass defense, but terrible for stopping the run. When the secondary is as inexperienced as the Colts' though, and when you have leaders like Brackett out... you're pretty much SOL. Teams have learned, "Hey, if we put up a few touchdowns on their shiatty secondary, we can run the ball down their throats at will for the rest of the game."

yeah, pretty much sums it up. Tony Dungy built two teams that both won the Super Bowl. Both Manning and Gruden should be wiping his ass for the rest of his life.

Polian can pooh-pah the critics away all he wants to but when your winless team loses the close games to the middling teams and gets blown out by the better teams---it's the coach. This was the EXACT same thing that he did at Wake Forest, except that he didn't waltz into a championship team there.

Funny thing about his record (26-63) at Wake Forest: the Demon Deacons were actually searching out the worst teams in college football while he was there and he still lost. Against Rutgers (when they were terrible), Northwestern (when they were terrible) the service academies and division AA teams, he was 13-5. Against everyone else, he was 13-58.

Every damn thing about the team is built entirely around Manning.

Because he IS that awesome.

But when you take Manning away, you see how shiatty they become.

If Caldwell is a good coach; why do we never see him saying ANYTHING to anybody. (not even on his headphones for Pete's sake) He just stands there looking like somebody punched him in the head real hard before each game. Seriously, this man is just a figurehead who was moved into Dungy's place. I don't even know if they interviewed anyone else.

Also, many other coaches/advisers either retired or plain out got hired away. The other coaches are inexperienced twats.

Sure, their are injury problems, sure their are noobs running around without proper direction. But you don't get around the coaches are twats. Caldwell is King of the Twats!

Where's the outrage at New Orleans for running up the score?

jaylectricity: Where's the outrage at New Orleans for running up the score?

There were about 13 minutes left in the game when the Saints scored their last TD. The way things were going it is conceivable the Saints could have put up 80 or so. This game was not as close as the score would indicate.

Exactly, I was going to post something very similar. The entire season they've shown a total lack of ability to adjust to anything on offense or defense and the play calling has been downright idiotic at times. I remember a game earlier in the season, one that they had a shot to win, they had a 3rd and inches and had been running the ball surprisingly well so far, so what do they do? They put the ball in the hands of their inexperienced quarterback and it's an incomplete pass.

Blaming this season entirely on injuries is bullshiat, aside from the lack of Manning. Hell, they were decimated by injuries last season on both sides of the ball and they still made the playoffs at least.

Patriots Football Weekly is a newspaper publication. Now there is a TV show that the writers and editors do. It comes on Thursday nights.

They made a damn good point and I wanted to share it with the thread. Now that it's been almost 24 hours since I watched the show I can't even remember which particular game they were comparing it to, but in both the starting quarterback's last scoring drive came at the end of the third quarter.
