That's probably the most honest answer Romney's ever given. It seems so...unprogrammed.

I know a hard-core Republican who thinks The Matrix symbolizes government oppression, and the people who break free of it are 'waking up' to the evil Government machine overlords. Or, something like that.

No, I'm being dead serious.

"'Braveheart'," Rep. Michele Bachmann declared, adding after a thoughtful pause, "or maybe 'Saving Private Ryan'...

...My huband and I share a love of war movies. His favorite is '300'. He's probably watched it a million times."

I can see why she changed her answer to Saving Private Ryan, considering this is how her national team is treating the local campaign teams lately

If the same question were asked of Harry Reid, there is no way in hell he would say "Casino". The state senator character (played by Dick Smothers) is based on him.

/My favorite movie, BTW.

One thing I respect John McCain for is that - asked this question 4 years ago - he chose "Paths of Glory"

"Gee-orge Clooney?! I toldja he was a RINO!"

"Uh... w-w-wait. I meant, um, that movie with Jon Voight and Kelsey Grammer and that lunatic from the first few seasons of Law & Order. You know, hahaha, the one with the Ted Nugent soundtrack. Heh. OH COME ON PLEASE ELECT ME I WANNA BE PRESIDENT SO BAD!"

I love how they had to criticize Obama even for his movie choices, even though Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich chose two of the same movies:

As for Mr. Obama, he has four safe picks, each of which has claimed an Oscar as best picture: "Casablanca," "The Godfather," "Lawrence of Arabia" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" - perhaps disappointing hopes for bold change.

/Was hoping someone would go with Human Centipede.

The most unusual choice belongs to Rick Perry, who immediately singled out "Immortal Beloved" as his favorite, adding, "Bet you'll have to look that one up." (He was right.)

Not everyone needs to look that up. I saw it for the second time the other night. It's not bad, per se, although if one was going to do a biopic about Ludwig van Beethoven, another storyline other than some "Citizen Kane" reprise would have been nice.

Yeah, that movie is only so-so, especially when held up against Amadeus. Maybe the comparison isn't fair, but it is what it is.

The funny thing is that Mitt Romney was the only one who answered honestly and not in campaign mode.

2011-10-27 05:58:07 PM
Mitt Romney recently told the New York Times that his favorite film is the Coen Brothers' comic take on Homer's "The Odyssey," "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" It's both the most recent and most colorful choice of the candidates. But in these lean times, is a comedy set during the Great Depression really the smartest choice for a financier whose personal fortune is valued at north of $200 million?

Fark you. The guy gives an actual answer instead of Santorum's "hurr durr a movie that takes place in whatever state I'm in right now", and your response is to whinge about his answer not being immediately politically expedient?

Fark you twice.

Lionel Mandrake: One thing I respect John McCain for is that - asked this question 4 years ago - he chose "Paths of Glory"

That is a great movie. I was impressed Rick Perry didn't have something more...cookie cutter like the rest did. That was the most impressive answer to a question he's given in this campaign.

If someone asked me my favorite movie I'd be hard pressed to answer. Blade Runner, Lawrence of Arabia or Dark City I guess.

Honestly, I don't really like the man's policies, but his statement is as close to what I want to hear from a candidate that I want to really hear.

"What the hell does this have to do with running the country again?" is what I want to hear in response, but I know I am asking for a candidate to commit political suicide...

One of my favorite movies is David Lynch's take on Dune. I dare a candidate name that!

"That's the one where Gary Oldman plays a Saint Bernard, right?"

/seriously though, judging by Perry's inexplicable non-linear logic, I wouldn't be surprised if he thought he was immortal and/or beloved
