They are just supplying what is demanded, yet another symptom of the actual problem.

laughing babies are cute and wuvable, but they are not news. There is a stinkload of news out there, good and bad, and we shouldn't have to see this on a news channel.

This. We don't really have "circuses" in the Roman sense anymore. They've been replaced by major sports. A diversion created by the 1% that fools 95% of the 99%.

That and booze. Pay no attention to the men smoking cigars behind the curtain.

At least as of the time of the first Iraq war, CNN was the world's go-to source for reliable and unbiased news coverage. In the years that followed, I think they gave in to marketing dollars and the need to become the anti-Fox News, even if it meant compromising their centrist news-first approach. They really are a sad shell of their former selves. Somewhere Ted Turner is rolling over in his grave.

But it's important to know what is happening in the trial of Michael Jackson's doctor! Nothing that us happening with Greece can come close!

I don't really find those things to be cute, per se. But I can be kind of a sourpuss I am told so...

To be fair, the market is reacting very strongly to this Laughing Baby & Penguin news today. Savvy investors will be keeping a close eye on the LB&P indicator in the months ahead.

Lately in the morning I watch Al Jazeera English, BBC, and CNN. It's so horrible that I have to see it to believe it.

Yesterday: AJE and BBC: The actual news concerning the European debt crisis. CNN: Boy, Congress sure is unpopular! Here are five pundits to "explain" why! (different flavors of boardroom-acceptable spin) And then the anchor said Obama is "very unpopular right now."

Today: More pundits offering their opinion on Rick Perry's talk of not attending the debates. Each one had a thirty-second timer. When the time ran out, a buzzer sounded.

The media doesn't have to distract the public; the public actively chooses not to care about important things. Look at the "most popular" tabs on news sites that have them. People would rather read about which celbritard is getting arrested, going to rehab, getting divorced, acting like a compete douche, etc. The more useless the celebritard the better: Lindsay Lohan , Paris Hilton, anyone from reality TV are fine examples of this cultural phenomenon.

The last time I checked up on CNN, Anderson Cooper was doing some bit called the Ridiculist and making some brazing insightful comments on "Snooki". I immediately flipped.

Not at all, but it does lower CNN's claim to be a serious, credible news source.

So CNN wants to show something that will make people forget how shaity their lives are for a minute or two. What's the problem with that, I thought laughter is the best medicine?

Don't forget the "hard hitting" interview with Atlanta's mayor that basically threw softball questions at him about Atlanta's evictions. Fark CNN. I miss 24 hour news.

The people who produce Anderson Cooper seem to be a clueless group as well. They had some kid on there who did a small stick bomb earlier this week. After I saw that, I Googled "stick bomb" and found some guy known as the Kinetic King who creates stick bombs that blow away what was on AC. I still don't know why these "expert" journalists never bothered to get to the bottom of the stick-bomb fad. BTW, the Kinetic King's YouTube channel is here and he's got some huge bombs with up to 7000 sticks...
