You know your day is gonna suck as a defense attorney when your opening argument has to include a concession that YES your client DID strike the victim over 300 times with at least six different implements, and sure the victim did have over 100 defensive wounds on her body meaning she was conscious and fighting back for most of that time; and yeah, your client then did rather cold-bloodedly stage the scene to look like a robbery and sexual assault of the victim. But hey, it's not like any of this was PREMEDITATED or anything, it was just one of those spur-of-the moment things maybe brought on by one too many coffees or Red Bulls combined with some really wicked PMS. And really, who hasn't been there? Clearly this calls for nothing more than a stern talking-to and a solemn promise by the defendant not to do it again, right?

No kidding. At least they aren't foolish enough to be looking for acquittal... just a drop to Murder 2. This is grisly, grisly crime and it seems like she is red-handed as a motherf*cker.

Those parents, sitting there listening to that drivel "this was a fight, a terrible "fight" that just got out of control, blah blah she didn't intend wharble garble nonsense not first degree murder" I have no idea how they can do it. Three hundred and twenty two separate injuries, over a hundred of which were defensive injuries, including a crushed skull.

I'm pretty sure my head would explode just like that guy in Scanners. :-( I'm going to go home and hug my kids, and tell them if they are ever in the position where they have to fire someone, make sure there is someone else there to witness it not only for legal protection (I've unfortunately been the witness before) but physical protection as well.

It was a huge thing here in DC back when it happened. There's a new trend here of people from the eastern blighted crime ridden side of town going "on safari" to the western side to commit some kind of crime and then return home. People get worried when P.G. County crap escapes containment and gets exported to nice neighborhoods. That's what Norwood tried to make it look like.

So the other girl calls Norwood out on her thefts, and Norwood calls her after work to come get something or other. Then she confronts her co-worker on her mistake of threatening to snitch. The girl, not realizing exactly what sort of creature she was dealing with, fell for it and showed up. An argument broke out, and Norwood wound up having to explain it to her physically.

It's a terrible place, the eastern side of DC. It breeds a sort of people that are just... different in the way they look at things. I got to witness a murder in my Crystal City apartment back in the 90's where two fine gentlemen came over on the metro from Anacostia to steal a car. They waylaid a girl in the parking lot and shot her twice in the back. They left her to die and drove her explorer back to their house where they were arrested. Her dying screams of "Help me!!! Please help me!!!" still haunt me 15 years later.
