Indeed.

"I don't know because I don't see quite how the conference network would work," Boren told the AP. "I'm confused by that myself."

WELL THANK YOU FOR BEING SO HONEST!

Would it kill someone even remotely associated with the Big12 to show any shred of confidence or competence?

My god, I hope this conference never dies! This is wonderful!

I'm amazed how any AD fails to grasp the concept of it "It will make you a shiat load of money".

Texas is seen as a dick in this whole process. Things like this show a little context.

The Longhorn Network came only after a Big 12 and Lone Star (with A&M) networks were turned down. Short sightedness of peers forced Texas to suffer through it or 'kill college football' and just do it themselves.

That said, this example is extreme. Boren is quite possibly the stupidest university president in the nation. He tried to run to the Pac, killing the Big 12's courtship of Pitt at the time. Later, knowing Mizzou was on the fence, he held a press conference at the exact same time as theirs about the same subject- conference unity. He is an attention hog who doesn't care that he is hurting his own cause so long as he's the one people are looking at.

Empahisis is mine. I can't get enough of reading about this crazy conference. The news is sooo much more entertaining than news from the SEC. Stable conferences can't get enough to fill a whole week of headlines.

I agree with his post for the most part. Texas got a sweetheart deal from ESPN--no athletic department would have turned down a $300 million payday and their own network. I still think LHN was a shiatty idea and probably will fail, but it's mostly on ESPN for overvaluing Texas' value as a national brand. But hey, if Texas fails at this then there probably isn't another school that could make a go of it. I think the Pac-12 is wisely starting a series of regional networks, which could be the way of the future instead of the LHN.

Really, though, the Big 12 was doomed from the start. The rules were set up to benefit Texas, Nebraska and OU back in the 90s. Some of those rules (unequal distribution of revenue) really came back to haunt the conference in recent years. Big 12 leadership was stupendously incompetent and impotent; AD's at the top three schools were running the show. It's no surprise Texas overshadowed even OU and NU in recent years in terms of money and influence. Nebraska and OU were still big, but Texas just overwhelmed them in recent years. Additionally, conference members made some truly baffling decisions to facilitate the Big 12's demise (moving conference HQ to Texas and basically giving the title game to Dallas; shooting down a Big 12 Network a few years back). Other members could have stopped it with a vote but failed to do so, so I don't feel sorry with the Big 12 castoffs headed for C-USA.

Nebraska was complicit in a lot of these bad decisions (notably shooting down a Big 12 Network, unequal revenue distribution), so it's a bit ironic that they've taken refuge in the stability of the Big Ten and will make more money there than the Big 12 ever could have generated, even under rules set up to benefit them. Nebraska may have been the only school that stood up to Texas, but they rarely did it on any issue that mattered and they often were complicit with Texas in moves that benefited themselves at the expense of the conference.

So basically, Texas shares the blame with everyone else for the current debacle.

Let texas fans think they are relevant to the rest of the nation, outside of Notre Dame I cant think of one college that really deserves their own channel and its not because I think ND is a good team, just that its has worldwide appeal with all the Catholics, texas wont pull many viewers from the rest of the world or even the states for that matter. I always love how they take credit for the large ratings for their NC game, the bigger reason for that rating was because how big both teams were not just them.

Although, I dont blame them for taking the money from someone dumb enough to give it to them.

SEC Accidentally Announces Missouri To SEC

Good luck West Virginia, and make sure you check for knives before anyone pats you on the back.

Because nothing screams stupidity louder than that whole "Rhodes Scholar" label thingy.
