(NCRM) Asinine Australian MP demands that gays stop the heterophobic attacks on him and his values of traditional marriage, and to stop trying to impose their own values on him. Man, the Onion always kills me...wait, it's not the Onion?   (thenewcivilrightsmovement.com) divider line 52

Alright Mr. MP, lemme ask you a question. Does their "heterophobia" keep you from doing something? Do they have some sort of right that you do not? No? Then STFU and GBTW.

According to Wikipedia, Australia doesn't have same sex marriage, but some "Other type of partnership", any Aussie farkers out there to clarify what exactly that situation is? According to their same map, some nations have the death penalty for it, that's some pretty stark contrast.

Are Aussie gays telling you that your heterosexual marriage is illegitimate? Are they telling you that your heterosexual "lifestyle" is a sinful abomination and that you're going to hell?

No? Then they're not "heterophobic". STFU and GBTW.

Is it wrong that I'm comforted by the fact that the "I'm not racist! You're the real racist for calling me racist!" tactic is used by mouth breathers all over the world, and is not Unique to the USA?

This is a classic example of 'stop doing/saying/liking what I don't like'.

Because he dislikes gay marriage, gay's shouldn't be allowed to marry, because their existence makes him feel bad.

whats sad is that millions would agree with him on that.

According to a radio story I heard about polygamists (a serious story, not this TLC "Sister Wives" crap), they find that you want to go from 2 wives to 3 as quickly as possible. With 2 wives, it's typical that the women eventually find common ground and wind up ganging up on the husband (giggity). With 3 wives, it's usually possible to find some way to leverage the third against the other two, allowing the husband to keep some modicum of control.

Maybe it's just because I've got a contrary streak a mile wide, but people like this idiot MP make me want to really obnoxiously flaunt the fact that I'm gay just to be ornery.

Then I remember that the only rainbows I like are a flip-flop brand, that since the grunge era ended I wouldn't be caught dead in flannel, and that I look terrible with short hair.

"Gay people's" values: Marriage should be open to all consenting adults.

Mr. Messenger's values: Marriage is a "divine gift" for only those people that my religious beliefs approve of.

Yeah, sorry. There's only one set of "values" there that's worthy of "respect".

2011-10-27 05:56:35 PM
Whenever someone says "traditional marriage", I think of dowries and arrangements, and situations where the woman has no choice in the matter, and oftentimes the man has no choice either. The supposedly "traditional" marriage where both people have a choice in the matter is really a late 19th-early 20th century concept.

I for one am glad someone finally spoke up against these terrible anti-heterosexual gay people, always trying to revalue traditional marriage by undermining the culture of Christian marriage. I have my values, why do you hate me for them? [sob] Why do you keep trying to push me into some kind of belief I don't share? [sniffle] Why am I ALWAYS THE ONE WHO HAS TO BE TOLERANT OF YOUR SICKO VIEWS?? [bawl]

That should do it.

Passive aggressive shenanigans like this piss me off. My wife has a family member who sounds just like this wanker.

He sits there and waxes all melodramatic about how the homosexuals are destroying everything with their sin juices and how the marriage equality movement is anti-xtian.
What is absolutely hilarious is how if you question him at all he screams that you are attacking him for his religious beliefs.

In Australia there's de facto marriage laws on the books. If a couple have been living together for (I believe) 2 years whether gay or straight the couple is considered married for all intents and purposes. "But what about roommates who aren't involved?" I hear you say, well there's certain factors (such as whether you have children together, frequency of sexual relations, if you sleep in the same bed and many other factors) that someone can use to affirm that status if it comes to that.

The PM, or Prime Minister, is from Victoria, via South Australia, via Wales.

The MP, or Member of Parliament, in question is from Queensland, which is, as you say, the equivalent of the US South.

We're not quite there yet. There has been some pressure for a parliamentary vote on this and it looks like the PM may make this a conscience vote, so voting will not necessarily be along party lines.

Only some parts of it. The south-east is highly developed, and pretty progressive, the north and west is rural, and more like Texas. Hell, we have a town called Texas out there. Meanwhile, the previous priminster (Rudd), was a Queenslander, and under his watch, gay couples gained a lot of rights and recognition from the government, so you can't tar us all with the same brush.

But yeah, subby is an Idiot for getting PM/MP mixed up, and there are much worse statements from the US representatives, or hell, even from US presidential candidates, if you want to compare.

De Facto relationships of gay people are recognised officially, even though they can't get married yet. For federal government purposes (and I'm pretty sure for most of the states too), a homosexual De Facto relationship is the equivalent of a hetrosexual De Facto relationship, and is the equivilant to being married, when it comes to government regulations and services. Most of this is due to efforts by the new Labour government since the Howard government was ousted in 2007 (they were very anti-gay marriage), so hopefully it's paving the way for legalised gay marriage.

@maddermaxx : Apologies, I should have more clearly specified North Queensland.

I particularly enjoy whenever they (Queenslanders) hold a referendum on daylight savings, then give all of the rural votes a modifier per vote so each vote counts for more than the votes from people living in the densely populated parts of coastal southern Queensland.

Also, unicameral parliaments suck.

The worst part about these types of people is that they are too stupid to reason with, and thus you can't show them the idiocy of their statements with any hope of a logical reaction...I sometimes wonder if its not so much bigotry as it is simply sheer, incurable, terminal stupidity

Only someone from Sydney or Melbourne would think that Queensland is the Australian equivalent of the US South. And we Queenslanders know that they're all dickheads anyway.

Just kidding. But seriously. What's the rest of the country away from the east coast the equivalent of? The occupied Middle East?

Huge bible-thumping family-values christian-schooled bigot population in Australia. The Labor party has been catering to them and saying they will not change the definition of marriage from being between a man and a woman. Now they are starting to change their tune, as they are losing their left-wing base over this. My MP is strongly for "marriage equality" (the term they use for it here), but he told me he's still going to vote with the party, which means nothing will change until labor changes its platform. Once that happens the law will likely change very quickly, and it's up for debate next month.
