Well, that's one way of looking at it, I guess.

2011-10-27 09:27:17 AM
I would say that's a good outcome. The kid will hopefully get the support he needs.

ZERO TOLERANCE!

Earguy: ZERO TOLERANCE!

The kid is being charged as a minor, and the cops went out of their way to state that he was never a danger to anyone but himself. I would say that is a fair ballence between tolerance and caution.

2011-10-27 12:18:49 PM
Did subby read the same article I did?

2011-10-27 12:57:31 PM
That's a great way to encourage kids to seek help when they most desperately need it.

Quasar: Did subby read the same article I did?

I believe subbys stopped reading articles before they acutally submit the headline several years ago.

2011-10-27 01:08:36 PM
Well, the kid didn't kill himself, so yeah, problem solved.

2011-10-27 01:12:15 PM
Without reading the article subby, I'd fully expect the principal to call the cops. The kid had a gun. What did you expect of him? What if, instead of suicidal thoughts, the kid admitted homicidal thoughts?

god
I hate to agree with anyone on fark.
but

THIS

now, if he had been tased and then charged as an adult ...
of course, if the kid was black, he would have been shot dead resisting arrest

:D

15 and in the 8th grade! Yeah the little bastard should just shoot himself right then and there.

2011-10-27 01:32:25 PM
He gave the gun up voluntarily, there was no search failsubtard.

Slaves2Darkness: 15 and in the 8th grade! Yeah the little bastard should just shoot himself right then and there.

Instead of sending him to the guidance counselor, the principal should have just called him a "pussy".

Earguy: ZERO TOLERANCE!

I'd say zero tolerance of students with guns in school exhibiting serious emotional problems is somewhat reasonable.

That's being kind. Subby's to stupid to read.

This is clearly a welfare scam, much like the guy who robbed a bank in an attempt to medical care. Kid should pay for his own damn psychiatrist.

Well, we need to be outraged about something!

2011-10-27 01:42:17 PM
I deem the course of actions taken by the school and police to be completely appropriate in this case. Hopefully they can follow up with a discussion with his parents and the student receiving therapy.

2011-10-27 01:42:33 PM
And if they didn't call the cops, and he shot himself or others, all the Captain Hindsighters would have their mock outrage about how someone should have done something.

Sounds like the school staff took the proper steps to resolve the issue... I mean, if a student brings a gun to school, I'm inclined to say that you may want to contact the police no matter what his intentions were.

He expressed himself better than the senator/governor on live TV that one time

/at least, not as messy

You know how I can tell submitter was a democrat? He lied about the content of the article - fabricated the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the gun - to the effect of misrepresenting even the wrong authority figure as both callous and hostile.

Ya, I am sure getting beaten or raped in prison has excellent anti-depressant effects.

15 year old in 8th grade? Ouch!

He should be in 9th or 10th grade by now. Sucks to be kept back.

"The kid is being charged as a minor, and the cops went out of their way to state that he was never a danger to anyone but himself. I would say that is a fair ballence between tolerance and caution.".

Why bother charging him? Oh, yeah for doing the right thing and seeking help.

I'm sure being immersed in the criminal justice system will totally not exacerbate his issues.

Well good thing THE VERY FIRST SENTENCE states that he is being charged as a juvenile, right?

He's being charged as a juvenile, you idiot. He's not going to prison.

Perhaps one should have to pass some kind of comprehension and/or language skills test before being allowed to register at Fark.

2011-10-27 02:01:55 PM
Smooth, kid, now you have many additional problems to deal with. Should've lightened up, ditched class, and smoked a joint in the woods near the school with your buddies like normal losers do.

2011-10-27 02:05:08 PM
I think it's reached the point on Fark where any thread having to do with police should automatically be sent to the Politics tab.

2011-10-27 02:07:43 PM
So a suicidal kid was found with a gun on campus.... and we're supposed to be mad at the PRINCIPAL?

Who knows what the fark that kid was going to do. It's just a good thing he went to someone to talk about it first, and that that someone made the right call.

Mambo Bananapatch: Perhaps one should have to pass some kind of comprehension and/or language skills test before being allowed to register at Fark.

The five of us who would be left would get very bored.

I don't have a problem with this. If his parents can't/won't get him help (maybe not their fault - mental health care is expensive, and even if they have insurance, it often covers pathetically less than what is actually needed) being in the juvenile system can give him the help that he obviously needs.

This was the correct response. Therefore, it is boring. I'm off to the Jackbooted Thug thread to better enjoy my Fark Outrage.

2011-10-27 02:11:42 PM
He should hang himself in his jail cell, that'll show 'em.

Supes: Reading the actual article, it was a wholly appropriate response. I'm confused.

The problem is one of the following:
1. Subby lacks reading comprehension.
2. Subby submitted the headline as a deliberate troll attempt to start a flame war between those who usually say the school acted appropriately, and those who say they overreacted.
3. Subby actually believes his headline is appropriate for the article.

I'm going with 2.

Gunderson: But he just wanted a Pepsi!

Normal people don't act that way.

Charged as a minor for bringing a gun to school is still a major charge. The kid is screwed for life.
