How many speeding tickets does that car have on it's record?

That house does not look 3,200 square feet to me. Do Americans tend to count the basement when giving house measurements? Here I would expect them to say "1,600 square foot house with 3,200 square feet of developed living space."

/maybe the pictures are misleading

See, I was thinking "How long until it's reported stolen?" or perhaps "Does it come with the keys?"

I honestly don't remember, and I sold a house with a finished basement.

I think I needed to list the house and the basement separate, even though it was finished.

My current house has no basement.

2011-10-27 11:26:50 AM
Terminology in our area is "3,200 finished square feet" or "3,200 square feet of finished living space." But you never hear an agent or advertisement call it a basement; it's always "lower level."

Stayed at a hotel in London where the coffee shop was in the basement or the level below the lobby. The key for that floor in the elevator was -1, which seemed appropriate because what the Brits call the first floor we call the second floor.

FTFA:
Listing agent Jeremy Rock with Lakes Area Realty says his seller's choice to throw in Lamborghini Diablo as an incentive is just another creative way to draw the attention of serious buyer's in a challenging market.

I don't think a person in the market for a house like that is going to see that as a perk. I wouldn't buy a house that comes with a piece of equipment that's expensive to maintain and insure and is a theft magnet. And not particularly practical. And depending on the car's condition and mileage, the resale value probably isn't that great either.

Looks like shiat from the outside but take a look and the slideshow, it's a really nice house.

Is the economy so bad that news websites can't afford editors, or at least writers capable of properly utilizing the English language?

Remember Fark TV? That's how much this deal sucks.

On the market for 433K. Another journalism fail?

And in answer to other people's questions: in Minnesota, we count the basement in the sq/ft if it's finished. Generally the rambler styles like this one have a bedroom or two plus a family room in the basement.

2011-10-27 11:58:53 AM
How about no!

/neighbor had a hot rod delivered the other day. It looks like a kit car - no headlights - apparently doesn't even run because I know if I bought an old hot rod delivered to my house the first thing I'd do is drive it around the block. He pushed it into his garage.

//I don't want an old Lambo - I'm over 15.

I know right, they should have eight full time employees scouring over every piece of content so people like you don't have a fit over a misused word.

By "throw in", of course, they mean "roll into the cost of the house", which is why the place is so severely overpriced. My question is: how do they structure a home loan to cover that? I'm sure any bank would balk at the idea of financing a car for 30 years, which is the lion's share of that price, I'm sure.

careeringaheadncl.files.wordpress.com

/more less, no idea what the actual interior area is...

2011-10-27 12:07:25 PM
In Wisconsin a finished basement is not included when you list the square footage unless it's an exposed basement with full windows and/or door. In most cases you'd see the actual main floor(s) square footage and then a statement about the additional finished square footage in the basement. I know this because I'm finishing my whole basement and have looked to put our house on the market.

Unfortunately I don't have a Lamborghini Diablo to throw in with it, but I could throw in a Saturn LS200 and a copy of Diablo 2.

2011-10-27 12:07:29 PM
Seems like a nice enough house for something built in '56, and the taxes are pretty low. Still, you have to live in Minnesota.

The taxes, maintenance, and insurance for the car is probably more than that for the house.

Squawky: Three bathrooms in a four bedroom home? Isn't that a little excessive?

Not at all. Master, one for the kids, another for the main floor living area or finished basement...

I have a 4 bedroom, 4 bath (3 and 1/2 I think, just toilet/sink on living area floor) and when I finish the basement, it will need another one for sure. Chicks love that stuff too. Guys don't care, I wouldn't, but if you ever want to sell your house in the future, let a chick design it. Granite, stainless steel, crown molding, hardwood floors, blah blah blah. I wanted a goddamn carpeted living room and could care less what the appliances were made of as long as they work. Kids even have granite in their bathroom. But it sure looks nice.

No hot chick room? Forget it!

People who own a sub-400k house should not own a genuine Lambo. A 10,000-mile service would cost a month's salary. I agree with the ones calling it a rebodied Fiero.

Yes. And if you buy a used one, make sure it's clean or you will be forced to pay the fines associated with the vehicle.

That thing screams kit kar.

Which is fine...I wouldn't turn down a Beck Speedster to a Factory Five Cobra....but that just looks bad.

I guess it probably is, but not unusual. The two of us have a four-bedroom with three and a half bathrooms counting the powder in the basement. I am good with it as long as I always have a private place to take a dump.

Heck, the seller could throw in an actual Ferrari for around $20K:

This appears to have a walk-out basement, the yard slopes off in the back. So they are almost certainly including the basement in the 3200 sqft. A practice which is frowned upon here in NY. My house has a full basement (extra course of brick even for higher ceilings) and it can not be included in the houses sq ft calculation.

2011-10-27 12:25:45 PM
I should have sold my house with "included 2001 Kia Rio". I would have gotten ride of two problems.

White elephant

The new owners will get rid of it within a year.

For here, the house isn't all that overpriced. The real estate prices in the Twin Cities are freaking insane. I've seen little shoebox houses built 60 years ago in dumpy neighborhoods listed at $225,000. If you want a decent 2 story with attached garage, expect to pay in the neighborhood of $300-500k, depending on what it's got inside. Of course, that's why houses aren't selling well here and the rental market is tight.

A real Diablo in GOOD shape is worth about 100k tops. A salvage title would drop that closer to 30 - 40k. A kit isn't even worth 20k unless it's got a whole lot of genuine parts (read: motor, drivetrain and interior).

So really that's not a lot different than throwing in the furniture.

Also, from the crappy little picture I don't see anything that screams "kit car". It's probably just a really used and probably salvaged car.

The journalist's job is to write sentences in English. The editor's job is to verify that the sentences are written in English. Seems like they could do with two fewer employees.

And I've never seen a real Lambo with the gas filler cap on the c-pillar. Also, judging from the exhaust residue on the bumper, the engine is not in tip-top shape.

Ditto. Though with two teenage daughters and a younger son even 3.5 isn't always enough. We have friends from France who come to visit pretty regularly and think that many bathrooms is insane. Drove to D.C. from Chicago with them one summer, though, and I'm pretty sure a family of five in a single Super 8 motel room is the European version of crazy (their family, not mine)

Maybe it's just the lighting but that paint job looks like it's been sitting in the baking sun for 10 years. Also, those rear wheels look a little suspect. The front wheels look legit but I'm Googling, trying to find an actual Diablo with those deep recessed wheels and I'm not having any luck.

Is Golden Valley a really expensive neighborhood? The price seems a little steep for Minneapolis.

The rear wing looks a bit too wide too.

A good looking fake, but I have to say, upon a closer look, it does look like a fake. A real one in anything approaching decent condition would be worth too much to just throw in with a house. And as you point out, that one isn't in decent condition.

If it is real, my guess is the dude realized it needs a rather expensive engine and decided to just let it go with the house since he couldn't or wouldn't bother to keep it in good shape anyway.
