Sad Mary

Mary at the Crucifixion, part of a larger monument at the center of Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River, Massachusetts. (Thanks to the decay of the sheathing, the closeups of the monument are just messed the hell up, if you ask me.)

The Long Road Home

Looking west down Avenue-Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River, Massachusetts. (The monument from my first picture faces in this direction from a central circle where all the priests of Notre Dame de Lourdes are supposed to be buried.)

Lost Christmas Dreams

From the winter of 2005, a picture of my father's stone with an old Christmas wreath in the snow. Not a picture I enjoy looking at, to be honest....

This is Dixmont State Hospital Cemetery, near Pittsburgh, which operated for 130 years. The hospital was demolished in 2006. This is all that remains. There are no names, just index numbers carved into the cement stubs. The inmates were buried in wicker coffins made in the asylum shops. They died as they lived: cold, anonymous, unloved. But they are not forgotten because you come here to be frightened by them, to take their dignity in death as others took it in life.

They will not forget you.
