"The willful killing [of someone protected by the Geneva Convention] is defined as a war crime by Article 8 of the ICC's Rome Statute," the news agency quoted Ceccaldi as saying. "Kadafi's homicide shows that the goal of [NATO] member states was not to protect civilians but to overthrow the regime."

Uh, in this case doesn't one come with the other? What I read before was that NATO targeted military vehicles in an attempt to prevent them from attacking civilians. If this is true, which seems reasonable to me. Then what is the problem.

The United States does not accept compulsory ICC jurisdiction. We can sit back and point and laugh.

Libyans killed him. We just deprived Kaddafi the ability to stop it.

2011-10-26 05:23:39 PM
Have fun. NATO didn't do it.

If they file a lawsuit for every different spelling of his name, they could really rake in the big bucks.

2011-10-26 05:45:29 PM
We've heard you like murder, so we murdered your murderer.

2011-10-26 06:08:02 PM
Considering that NATO troops didn't do it, I think she might be better served in trying sue the new government...

AqueousBoy: If they file a lawsuit for every different spelling of his name, they could really rake in the big bucks.

On the other hand, we will finally have a definite spelling for his name.

I'm sure Khaaadauphe is spinning in his unmarked grave.

All his family members are jackholes who took part in crimes against humanity themselves. Brilliant plan; let them sue, but require that they show up in person to file the paperwork.

2011-10-26 07:39:19 PM
Okay and the Libyan government will just accuse you all of taking part in crimes committed during Kadafi, demand their extradition to Libya, and toss them in a jail cell for a decade...

The smart thing to do would be to tap whatever offshore accounts Kadafi had and hope everyone forgets about you.

2011-10-26 07:40:14 PM
They'd probably have better luck finding some of that $200 Billion stash.

/I wouldn't hold my breath if I were them on either count.

2011-10-26 07:40:31 PM
Shouldn't they be suing the folks of Libya that killed him? Although, it'd be interesting to see his family go to a Libyan court and try to argue this.

I think it would be better if every case was thrown out because the name was constantly being misspelled.

SN1987a goes boom: Shouldn't they be suing the folks of Libya that killed him?

They chose NATO because they are the ones who actually have money.

Let me get this straight.

The Libyan people, the ones Gadaffi ruled, were the ones to find, catch, and kill him. So she's going to sue NATO.

What.

ZAZ: The United States does not accept compulsory ICC jurisdiction.

True.

It was not a good thing what they did, but considering the source, I think the family has some nerve. I surely hope it's not coming from that son and his horrible wife who abused and burned their Ethiopian maid.

I heard today they sodomized Q-daffy with a knife.

/I'm OK with that.

Well, Gaddafi's daughters is kinda hot:

images.alarabiya.net

Also I guess she phones Gaddafi after he was captured and the Rebels answered telling her that "Old Fuzzhead is dead" Link (new window)

This isn't all that surprising, but what has surprised me are all the calls from human rights organizations & the international community for an investigation into his death.

I have an idea, how about we let the Libyans finish finding all his mass graves and then investigate all of THOSE victims first - and then investigate the deaths of everyone who had to die in battle because he refused to retire to France like a rational dictator. Then, when all those investigations are done with, THEN we can insist that the Libyans investigate his death.... So we'll know who to give the medal to.

He doesn't deserve any sympathy, although I thought that was really harsh that shortly before he died, the rebels supposedly sodomized Kadaffi with a knife. I know he used rape as a weapon, but the rebels didn't have to lower themselves to his level.

Of course, you always go after the deep pockets and the Libyan people have no money... SOMEBODY stole it.

Broke asshat in nice car causes traffic collision. Victim sues manufacturer of collider's car, because the manufacturer has deeper pockets than the asshat does.

Same thing.

Firefox does not yet recognize 'asshat'.

I was under the impression that these Arabic/Muslim names dont have official translations.. people just type how it sounds using our phonic alphabet. Same reason Osama had his name spelled a lot of different ways.

There may or may not have been "NATO" assistance in the capture.
Predator
or Mirage
or Tornado/Predator/Rafale

or, sue the kid who shoved a modified toilet plunger up his ass, then shot him.

Did the recognized uprising belligerent even ratify the Geneva Convention? As of 3 September 2011 they definitely had not. Citation (new window)

If they never ratified it then they aren't obligated to comply with it in any manner whatsoever.

An interesting tidbit, according to Wikipedia, is that the USA has not ratified the geneva convention protocol II, which is treating of wounded/POWs/civilians during a (US) civil war. So when the revolution happens, expect to be summarily executed with white phosphorus.

2011-10-26 08:04:18 PM
So NATO had full control over the rebels and this was all an organized plot. Seems like crazy was an inherited trait.

That spelling chart is BS. His name is officially spelled D-E-A-D.

Better: Why don't they go BACK to Libya and tell them that killing their father was wrong.

I'm sure they'll find a receptive audience.

Please Use Lube: As they rightfully should. Just because the US frolics around murdering babies for oil during illegal occupations, doesn't mean NATO can.

I hope they win.

For the people who actually hold this viewpoint, one problem: NATO didn't kill him. He was captured by rebels...and died a very painful death at their hands. If his family has a problem, I suggest they take it up with the NTC. I'm sure they'd be receptive to their concerns.

Since we are gonna go that way then I hope NATO kills every stinking last one of them and confiscates/freezes all their assets.

NEDM: For the people who actually hold this viewpoint, one problem: NATO didn't kill him.

Didn't *kill* him, but NATO actions were instrumental in the capture.

Supposedly.
