What eight-year-old doesn't want to dress up as a social worker?

I'm going with a mad scientist theme for the trick-or-treaters. But it's so pale in comparison to what I wanted to do. I could have had some awesome heads in old jars with glowing/gross fluids, body parts, etc.

I get alot of younger kids. And I know the fussy parents in this neighborhood would biatch about scaring their kids.

Bukharin: jesus costumes for everybody!

A jesus costume, depending on when exactly you chose to depict him, could be an exceptionally violent image.

I'm sure they won't have a problem with a kid dressing up as your friendly neighborhood doctor.

What the damn friggin hell is a "caring" costume? Have we not watered this holiday down enough? They can't teach community values the rest of the year and let the kids have some fun for one effing day? Damn, this is irritating, and I don't even have children!!

You can't help but respect the change-of-tactics from the farkwitted busybody assjacks who've been trying to unsuccessfully eliminate Halloween for so long.

They finally realized they'd never get rid of it with a frontal assault, so they're working a three-pronged approach of "Jesusween," "Trunk or Treat" and "No mean costumes or sugary candy" to make kids think "Wow. Halloween sucks ass."

All we've got to save the True Meaning of Halloween now are hot girls in slutty outfits slamming shots.

They announced this around the place I work. 'Make it fun!' Yeah...part of the allure and fun of halloween is the creepy/scary aspect of it. The workplace responded well, everyone went 'meh, I'm not dressing anyway'. Less than 10% of the building is now dressing/decorating and the usual halloween awesome around here is sedate and lame. It's a drag but I'm glad people choose to not participate, than participate on some lame-ass level.

This is really the best summation of how I remember Halloween and how it should be approached. It's one day out of the year before kids get to move on and become wage slaves indebted for life. Let them eat some GD candy and enjoy the day!

Five years ago the elementary school my children go to (daughter is in 4th grade, son is in 2nd) had some Mormon kids @ the school. In order not to offend them the principal said kids couldn't wear any "scary" costumes on halloween--only "pioneer" costumes or K-State/KU/ Mizzou cheerleader costumes or super hero costumes. Other costumes are religious? Seriously.../facepalm

What. The. FARK.

The Mormon kids aren't even there anymore. The school still does this. Most parents send their kids to school wearing whatever, anyway, but this year my daughter is refusing to wear anything, since she can't wear her skele costume because it's "religious"/scary. The other elementary schools in my town aren't full of fail.

Aphoticamy: The Mormon kids aren't even there anymore.

Amusingly enough, the best Halloween house in my old neighborhood was owned by a Mormon family. (My brother is close friends with one of their sons.)

Anyhow, every year they did a kick ass job....the front of the house was well decorated, plenty of detailed jack-o-lanterns, and the dad would always wear a scary costume while handing out candy.

RedEmily: I think halloween is dying.

A slow death where cries of "Won't someone think of the children?!!?" are going to eventually erode and wear down one of the most beloved times a child has in his life.

It started with "razor blade in candy bar" nonsense (which amounts to very little if you look it up on Snopes).

Kids in my area now typically go trick or treating at the Mall during the daylight instead of running around in packs of fun at night. I ended up throwing out most of the candy I had purchased to give to trick or treaters last year because they just were not out there in force.

Now you have people complaining about what costumes are "appropriate" on the one day where that is supposed to get thrown out the window.

Chipping away, bit by bit, until there is no more Halloween and a wonderful kids tradition will be gone.

Someplaces like my work rename halloween "funday" or some such BS. My job wants us to have fun and play pranks (nothing too serious cruel or mean) and we submit pics of our "fun" to the company to be posted on the company FB page.

Yeah, I do not compute. I grew up with a Mormon friend, and while they didn't really do Christmas or birthdays, I don't recall Halloween being treated as anything other than what it is: an excuse for kids to be kids. I'm sure there are differing levels of everything, but why change the entire school around for one family? If you don't like something, don't participate. Very easy!

Too bad "Common sense" isn't easy to portray in costume form.

That stuff is terrifying to school leaders.

That might also be somewhat controversial.
