Failure to renew his term would have put stockholders in a Fuehrer.

VW Does some pretty awesome stuff with self driven cars. I wish I could find the video shown at the presentation I went to by the guys that helped develop some of the algorithms. .

That was kind of a joke.

VW is #2 worldwide for cars manufactured. GM is #1 while Toyota is #3. VW probably will take the #1 spot within the next five years.

If all the South Florida Jews keep buying Lexus in bulk, Toyota might make a run for number one.

Since this thread will inevitably turn into a "bash VW's 10-20 year old vehicle" thread:

Volkswagen is a company doing everything right, and getting no respect. Their cars have honestly become competitive in reliability with Japanese cars during the last 4-6 years, without the mediocrity endemic to Japanese vehicles. The cars look good, perform well and have good to great interiors for their segments. They produce diesels which cost less and generally outperform their hybrid counterparts. JD power and Consumer reports have consistently bashed the vehicles on release and moved them to "recommended" or "above average" status two, three years after production. The new Passat is far and away the best vehicle you can buy in the sedan market in the low 20's. Get in one, drive it, sit in the back, check out the trunk, then hop in a base Camry, Accord or Sonata. If you're an adult, and can tell the difference betweeen McDonald's and Five Guy's, you should understand the difference.

After being around Hyundai in the years when they were producing good to great vehicles while being treated as trash, I can tell you that VW is the next redemption story.

I've owned:

84 GTI

77 Rabbit

79 Dasher diesel

01 Polo

Still own: 74 Super Beetle Convertible

Best damn cars for the money (at least those generations)..

"That Beetle Smell" of old seat stuffing, musty carpet, gas fumes, and the faint whiff of corroded battery terminals is intoxicating. If you've ever owned an air-cooled Beetle, you know.

dirkfunk: without the mediocrity endemic to Japanese vehicles.

When I saw the newest model Jetta in the parking lot I thought it was a horrible looking Civic. The designers need to be shot.

My '98 TDI is going on 275k. Engine keeps on rollin. Suspension hates me, but engine just won't quit.

F*ck VW. I rue the day I traded in my Subaru for a Passat. Biggest POS vehicle I've ever had. Wife had a Jetta which was ok but the dealership were the biggest bunch of crooks. Used every trick in the book to try and wring an extra dollar out of you on the sales floor and in the service dept. F*ck VW.
