Take my advice; pull down your pants, and slide on the ice.

Looking at these, I can't help but think we're loosing some image quality as we move away from film.

Excellent composition by a dedicated, if unknown to me, photographer. How about putting them on some AAT postage stamps?

Hey, I'm leaving in a month. Where are you going? I'll be working out of MCM and the Dry Valleys.

I'll be primarily in MCM, doing day trips out to our stations. In December I'll be in MCM, Byrd, and Pole. Then in January I'll be back to day trips.

Is there a good biography of Hurley? Or at least a coffee table edition of his photos? If not, there's money to be made there, or at least a tribute to a hero of the early 20th century.

Sir Ernest Shackleton tells the newest member of the expedition that the myth
about -120 C steel is just an old wives tale, and has just wagered a week's pay
that the man is too much of a coward to test it himself.

stuhayes2010: Looking at these, I can't help but think we're loosing some image quality as we move away from film.

Wait, what?

You realise that these are digital images too.. right?

So does *everybody* get to go to Antarctica now? WTF? I wanna go.

stuhayes2010: "Looking at these, I can't help but think we're loosing some image quality as we move away from film."

A few observations:

1) As good quality digital cameras get better and better, the difference between a good digital camera and a film camera become more and more negligible.

2) Most of the very high-quality images you see in advertisements and pictorials taken by professionals are with digital SLRs.

3) As ViralMonkey pointed out, when you're looking at the images in the article, you're looking at digital images.

4) It's impossible to look at a small image like those in the article and get any idea of the true quality for comparison.

The film vs. digital argument was a good one a few years ago. Nowadays, not so much.
