Each was charged Tuesday with two counts of felony child abuse, two counts of false imprisonment and misdemeanor child abuse based on the living conditions in the home.

This one better not stick. I mean, yeah a cage is a little extreme, but where do you draw the line? You can't send a kid to his room anymore for fear of being charged with false imprisonment?

More kid's cages would probably allow me to enjoy eating out more often then not.

States should pay a one-time payout to anyone on medicaid/assistance that gets their tubes tied or a vasectomy. It's their choice. Don't want to, don't do it.

How many do you think would take 'em up on it? Let them cry about it later.

I really wish there was an option to bid on delivering a beating to people like this. Highest bidder gets to club these idiot 'parents' for a few minutes, preferably with a tire iron.

I remember I was about three or four some other kids and I found an old dog crate in the basement of my babysitter's house. We were playing "puppy" and taking turns getting in and "locking" ourselves in it (it was just the little slidey latch, no real lock) when she came downstairs. At the time, we couldn't understand why she was so upset.

Good thing the cops didn't come by while we were doing that.

Duh, this made it sound like I meant that's what was happening in this case, which it clearly wasn't. This case is obviously abusive. Just jogged my memory.

We have a crate like that for the dog, and it's hard to keep my step-daughter out of it. She crawls in and locks herself in.

North Platte is what folks on the coasts picture when they hear "Nebraska".

Flat. Corn. Flat. Cows. Flat. Trains. Flat. White Trash. Flat.

I'm all for tacking on anything they can think of to keep the scumbags locked up as long as possible. Would that count stick by itself? Probably not. It's just piling on for those who deserve it.

just use that new goop they inject into the tubes to kill sperm for 10-15 years and make it mandatory for all males to get a drivers license, no need to touch the woman.

I guess the only thing worse than being born into North Platte Nebraska would be being locked in a cage in North Platte Nebraska.

Locks are where the line is drawn. You can send a kid to his room but if you then LOCK THEM IN that crosses the line. Being sent to your room isn't "imprisonment"

Trust me, there's a bit more than an angry mommy tapping her foot on the other side of the door that's keeping 2 million people in prison right now.

I'm getting a kick out of this because most of you must not be parents. As the father of two I can tell you that little hands learn fairly quickly how to open cages. By the time my kids were eight not only could the undo the latches in total darkness they could get through most locks in under ten minutes. Before you think about locking the little ones up remember you might be teaching them skills that will make your life a whole lot more difficult latter. I now have a $50 bike lock on the liquor cabinet.

Pat Healy: We got this one kid, Mongo... He's got a forehead like a drive-in movie theatre, but he's a good ship. So we don't bust his chops too much. So, one day Mongo gets out of his cage...
Mary: They keep him in a cage?
Pat Healy: Well, it's just an enclosure...
Mary: No, but they keep him confined?
Pat Healy: Right, yeah.
Mary: That's bullshiat!
Pat Healy: Well, that's what I said! So, I went out and I got him, uh, I got him a leash.
Mary: A leash?
Pat Healy: Yeah, one of those ones you can hook on the clothesline, and he can run back and forth and, uh, there's plenty of room for him to dig and play. That kid is really, uh, he's really blossomed.

Cops busted in and saw children in dog crates....and didn't shoot them?

2011-10-26 02:29:43 PM
As young as the perps are, I'm betting they saw the kids crawl in the cage one time, and thought it was a brilliant idea to keep them safe. Instead, they should have realized the kids were hoping to be taken to the vet's kennel to get out of the filth at home.

My parents did that... when they came home and I had removed the hinges on the cabinet and just took the doors off, they got kinda upset, still not sure why. My dad still wonders how I got into his porn stash in the safe... heh...

DROxINxTHExWIND: Are these white PEOPLE of white TRASH ansd which "culture" is to blame for the way they act? I get confused.

Cultural support of ignorance is hardly limited to any one subgroup, and the amount of melanin in the above persons skins isn't relevant. I imagine people create out-groups in cultural subtext (white people, white trash) in an effort to say that "those guys" aren't like "us". Creation of out-groups is universal.

Or are you making a point that I am missing?

Not that I don't support the decision to remove these kids from that environment, but how did they find them in the first place? What decides a "well being" check is in order, and what is allowed in a "well being" check. Did the social workers just walk into the house?

Kids and dogs are a lot alike... you have to wonder what effect this has on your dog whenever you say "Well, bye bye, Fido! We'll be back in three weeks!" and then lock him in a metal cage surrounded by strangers.

Of course, if you've named your dog "Fido," chances are he's already traumatized for life.

usually when someone lobbies a complaint, or following some sort of legal incident (like a domestic abuse complaint.)

In this case, a neighbor is quoted as complaining about raw sewage issues originating from this trailor, so it was probably something related to that.

Which one of them was old enough to have an 8 year old? FTA:

Bryson L. Eyten, 25; Samantha J. Eyten, 24; [...] Bryson and Samantha Eyten are the parents of two other children, ages 8 months and 8 years, who were living in the home.

Clark, 22; [...] Clark, mother of the two boys, [...] ages 3 and 5,

Ok. It was unclear without a bit of parsing, but they all formed babbies when they were 17 or (depending on the birth dates) 16?
Color me surprised that this is how it turned out. A real mature adult parent would know to lock their kids in the closet, not a dog kennel.

So "play pens" and "baby crib" with the same or less square footage are good parenting but if we call the enclosure a "dog kennel" it's arrest the parents and take the kids into custody. I have a problem with the filth reported in the home but the dog kennel sounds like a pretty clever life hack to me.
