I don't think there's anything major, mid- or otherwise, about the Summit OR Southland conferences.

Or the Big East, for that matter.

As an alum of a Southland Conference school, I don't understand this move. We just lost a school, Texas State-San Marcus, to the WAC (speaking of non-major conference) and we replace them with a non-football school. I guess with Texas-San Antonio and Lamar adding football teams, and Texas-Arlington about to restart theirs, there was no need to get another football team.
